computer problems. Explorer.exe

When I try to open an explorer window. Usually a folder that has movies or some kind of video in it. I will get an error message that pops up. Sometimes a Dr watson post morten message. When I click ok, or send error message. All my windows will shut down and everything on the screen disapears...only the back ground remains. Then the icons on my desktop re apear. I have read the error. It says it is the explorer.exe file. Does not say what is wrong with it. I have searched on the internet but get conflicting advice. Anyone else experience this problem?

fyi: Windows explorer not Internet explorer.

Does it do this if you set your view to details instead of thumbnail view?

Strange you ask. I thought it would only happen when it is in thumbnail mode. I will switch it to detail but it seems to default back to thumbnail when I re access it.

You may have to change a folder outside of that and choose to remember that setting for all folders.
