What is the difference between 9.5,10,10.5 and 12" converters and when are they used ? I am looking to change out my stock D5 with a good street/strip converter to match my combo and see that some are using a 10" and some are using 12". Also is a after market 12" converter the same as a restalled D5 or are they two different animals. Just trying to educate myself before making a purchase. Thanks, ikle.

The smaller the converter, the higher the stall can be. A 9.5 is as small as needed to get enough stall for a Buick V6.

An after market 12" can be the same as a restalled D5 is it's built to be looser than the D5 used in the Buick Gn's. Some are made as a Monte Carlo converter and will be tighter than the GN converter.

The stock converter stalls around 1600-1800. A restalled D5 stalls 2200-2400. A 9.5 or 10" lock-up will stall anywhere from 2400-3600 depending on how it's built. For quicker throttle response with a combo like yours I use a 2800 stall 10"
