Just got my car back from the body shop and I thought it was finally going to be ready to drive. Wrong again. The factory electric fan is not coming on causing the car to run hot. I think there may be another issue causing it to run hot also because it gets up to about 240 degrees just sitting at an idle for about 5 minutes from a cold start. Would just the fan not coming on cause that high of a temp in that short of time? Anyway, I know I need to get the fan coming on so who could offer some things to look at that would cause it to not come on? Car is pretty much stock with TT chip.

tomorrow I will remove the thermostat and see what that does. Any suggestions on things to look at that would cause the fan not to come on? fuses, relays, etc?

You can check the " Temperature Fan Control Sensor" located vertically on the top of the intake manifold under the throttle linkage. It has one green wire going to it and I believe with the key on engine off if you remove the wire from the sensor and ground it out the fan should turn on. If it does replace the sensor. This happened to me, the only difference was the fan turn on when temps where above 225 degree, I think the reason why the fan turn on with a bad sensor is because our Buicks have 3 temp sensors. One is for the idiot light, one controls the fan and the other one goes to the ECM so when the fan sensor fails the ECM will turn on the fan by activating the low/high speed relay on the drivers side fender. There's three fan relays, the largest is the Fan Delay relay which will activate the fan if temps are over 226 degrees when the car is off, the middle one is the high speed relay which is controlled by the a/c high pressure switch and ECM it activates when temps are above 226 degrees or has refrigerant pressure of 225 psi. The last relay is the low speed relay and it is also controlled by the a/c and ECM, it activates the fan when a/c pressure is 150 psi or when temps reaches 208 degrees. Hope this helps.

Its too unreliable for my peace of mind so i bypassed all that crap & put my fan on a switch that i manually flip on & off as needed!

One of the first things I do to any older car.

currently cutting it the F loose

Well I just removed the thermostat and cranked the car up and it immediately starting smoking. The smoke seems to be even worse now. Here's a video but I can't figure out how to post it on here...

No it was doing this before the body shop

Pulled all the spark plugs and they look fine. Any recommendations on what to check now? Anything on the scan master or power logger that could tell me what the problem is?

Are you using 50/50 anti-freeze. To much anti-freeze and the engine gets hot quick.

Not sure what my concentration is but it should be close too 50/50

I was not running your hot numbers but hotter than 200 in the summer a stop lights and it took awhile to come back down. I replaced the 50/50 with purified water and RMI 25. 180 al the time now.

I will try that in a few days. Gonna have one of my buddy's to check it out and see what's going on. Hope it's not a head gasket!
