I'm in the process of diagnosing a problem and I want to start with checking line pressures. Can someone give me the correct line pressures that I should see on a healthy "built" 200 4 R

I've looked through the shop manual, but I can't seem to find a
"Target" line pressure. The best info I can find is in the
T.V. CABLE SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS section where it tells me that I should be equal to or no more than 10lbs (34 kPa) higher than in park @ 1000 rpm. ( equal to or no higher than what )

It seems that I should have a target pressure to determine if there is a problem if I don't meet it .... yes ?

Any help here would be appreciated ... is there a site that I can go to for this information ?

from the TCI sight

Range Minimum Maximum
Park 90-110 190-230
Reverse 95-120 200-300
Neutral 90-110 190-230
Overdrive 90-110 190-230
Drive 90-110 190-230
Second 185-230 185-230
Low 185-230 185-230

Would be a little lower on a stocker without any mods.

I have a question: is the min/max values at no TV and max is at full TV? Doing this at 1500 rpm with the TV line disconnected and manually pulling it full open? Thanks

OK guys,

Here's my line pressure readings

Minimum Maximum

PARK 105 150

REVERSE 205 270

NEUTRAL 115 195

OVERDRIVE 115 200

DRIVE 115 195

SECOND 235 230

LOW 225 250 +- +-

Point of clarification : my minimums were checked at idle (1100) and Maximums were checked at 1500 rpm ... " have I done this correctly ??"

Also I have a StageRite TB so LOW GEAR isn't just LOW GEAR and at full throttle pressure the guage was bouncing between
230 and 270. It was hard to define as it was bouncing so fast.

Is there anything in these pressure readings that would give a clue to having no 3rd gear ..... car won't shift from second at all !!

This is a freshly built trans by a professional trans guy who has built one for me before that worked well so I can only assume that he new what he was doing.

The trans gave me one run at the track with all 3 gears. Second run had no 3rd.

It just stays in 2nd but won't shift into 3rd. It may at some point but I've had it up to 65 mph in 2nd .... no shift. This is with no load on the hoist.

It didn't shift on my second run at the track under load either. Ran through the quarter in 2nd. Let my foot out of it, of course.

Hook the pres. guage back up & run it up to where it would shift to see what it does. Just looking for a loss in pressure.

No guru just trying some ideas.

Thanks Jim,

I'll try that asap and post results. Pretty busy at work these days. Working long hours.

Finally got to work on the car this weekend.

I've got 110 psi in drive (1st) at idle (1100rpm)

I've got 110 psi as it shifts to 2nd (1600 rpm)

I've got a very vibrating pressure that bounces rapidly between 75 psi and 125 at 48 mph where I would assume it should shift into 3rd ..... but no 3rd gear

Interestingly enough I have a 3 speed transmission. When I start in 2nd it will shift up a gear when I move the shifter to drive, but only the one shift. I then shift it to overdrive and it shifts up to overdrive.

Starting in Drive, it only shifts once while remaining in drive.

What happened to my 3rd gear ??
