i got an 1984 T-Type, bone stock. has the turbo six. i need to know waht it would take to make this car be close to if not better than the new corvettes. any advice is appreciated.

which vette

If your talking about the new z06 our hotair cars dont stand much of a chance considering that the new z06 with a decent driver can gow low 12's
high 11's so if you want to compete with them it will cost quite a bit of cash
thousands and thousands:rolleyes:
you can always look at some of Lee Thompsons stuff he has taken hotairs
faster than most
Damn Brad I was thinking same thing just typed to slow lol

Mike- I actually talked to a guy at a car show who drilled me to death about how our cars run and make HP. In the end I asked to see his car and I was stunned. He had an 04 ZO6 with twin turbos. No way in hell I could win but I would be in his rear view mirror. Have a great fourth and talk to you later. Brad

Haahah i love this post. good one.

Lots of cash is what you'll need. And a love for these cars.

yeah but your lookin to spend close to 8 to 10k to catch up with the new vette.

Mines almost done! and i estimate ive spent about that much...but 500+ horse is nice.

GN84TURBO- I am a fool who has spent the $8000 and I am still not done. Last is poly motor mounts and a ported throttle body. Even when I retune there is no way I can beat a ZO6 if the guy knows how to shift. Have a safe and enjoyable fourth. Brad

A couple thousand, racegas, and slicks. That's assuming you do the labor yourself.

it can be done cheaper then people think. 4.1 and a big shot of NOS

If not Vette, how bout a Stang GT

thanks for the info. would i be able to take on the newer mustange GT's? they are ugly but quick, can i be quicker. my budget is $3000, since im only 20 and in college. any mod ideas are appreciated. im going with a 3 inch exhaust ( cat back ), 42.5 lbs. fuel injectors ( or bigger ), a better chip, tires, possibly a turbo ( if financially able), LS1 MAF and a better throttle body. again any info or help is greatly appreciated. This car will be nice when its done since its a WH1 car. I'm doing all the work myself to stay in my semi acceptable budget.

Determination

Not to start the flaming, to a point Brad is right, a HOT Air would have to have a AJAX rocket strapped to beat a Z06. Brent is also right also, a properly built 4.1 and NOS would stand a CHANCE! Ms. Jamie, (Turbo6X2) and (Cool84)would probably show him their tail lights. When Brent (boost231) gets back stateside, we look for his Hot Air to run in the 11's. Mid 11's should take care of a stock z06. Once thay start modifying, you are going to see some tail lights.

It all boils down to determination and money. Lee Thompson had a serious case of determination. He and Dwayne (aka Big Daddy) proved that determination could push a Hot Air in the 10's.

He create parts that did not exist. He pushed a bad design intake, header (which he reworked) and a stage 4.1 block to a 10.60 @128. Where does this leave you? If your goal is to beat a z06... It can be done... it may be costly.. but with determination, you can do it..... Know one thought Leeo could pust a Hot Air in the 12's, 11's let alone the 10's and look stock....

85 DAPHNE- I would start a new thread on how to take a Hot Air and stomp new Mustang GT. For example you do not need a 3 inch exhaust with the stock turbo nor the TA33C upgrade. You only need a 2 1/2 exhaust. There are alot of options in your price range which will get you there. Good luck- Brad

the reason im so intent on figuring all this is out is that my uncle has a 04 cobra not a GT and i want to whip his A$$, car to car, since all he does is trash talk my 85 GN. ( yes im 20 and already have 2 turbo buick and im looking for my third in due time. ) I've read how nasty these cars are and i want to be able to take some of his infintile ego and and shove it down his wind pipe. this sounds personal cause it is. i want it to be on like donky kong!

all it takes is $$$ and time. if you have both of those your golden. there is no quick way on making a hotair fast. If you want to smoke them and not have to spend alot of money get yourself a 87. they give you more gains with less mods then these hotair cars. just with a few simple boltons you can get a 87 in the 11's. i like a challange so thats why i kept my 84 so long. i have had my 84 for 10 years now and i have only had it up for sale once and thats right after my brother caught it on fire and i was pissed off. the car was only on the market for 1 day. i have now put over 10,000 into it and i love it. in time it will run 10.8* or faster. you can quote me on it in time IT WILL RUN 10.8* or faster.

research

i've done some reasearch on found some numbers. the car im up against is a 2004 SVT Cobra that reportedly does 0-60 in 4.9 and 1/4 mi. in 13.4 sec. @ 109 MPH. these cars like out tubro buicks were underrated. now the question is, what mods would be a good combo to be an " underdog " but still a winner?

on a diff. turbo buick site there are a couple articles about "recipe cars".
this is the site Turbo Buick Performance Build Ups/Recipes
if anyone could check these out or have seen them your advice is greatly appreciated.

The new ZO6 is a handfull if you don't have a lot of seat time. If you can run high 12's low 13's try out the next Z06 you come across. The ZO6 has run high 10's stock but a lot of guys are having trouble making mid 12's. It's all about the driver. An average (stock) ZO6 with a good driver is capable of mid 11's and low 11's with a top noch driver. With headers, DR's and tuning, most will run into the 10's. Awesome car with the right driver.

ya i've dropped the whole z06 idea in favor of taking my uncles pride and joy out. i will be a couple months yet till it all comes together but once is does thanks giving will be a joy when i can make fun of him!

recipe on killing said stang...

20 psi boost
good fuel pump
injector upgrade
cam
ported heads & intake
headers back exhaust.
big turbo
Proper chip tuning
Proper fuel (either really high octane, 112+ or alky and pump gas)

I've run 13.60's with my Riviera with the stock turbo, headers, cam, heads, intake and FRONT WHEEL DRIVE! So it won't take all that stuff above to get ahead, but if you do it all, you'll leave it behind in a hurry.

Would be alot cheaper to start out with a 86-7 . Im sure it can be done but would co$t some money with a hot air car.

Wow. That's crazy speed.

You could beat a load of car's with that.

And your car isn't intercooled?

Now here's something. Can you get your hotair more on the level of an 87 GN by putting the intercooler? Or is it just two different types of cooling methods?

Because to me, it just seems that the 87 GN's only difference than the hotair is that it has an intercooler and the older version's don't. Oh and the 87 is faster stock.

That's basically it... The turbo is slightly bigger, and the intake manifold flows better on the '86-'87.
