Easily....

6 failed 109 builds over the last 8 year's ($45,000 total from 3 different builders an shops)
An now a Frame-up restore + full autocross set-up + $30,000 paint job an guess what??
Brand new maxed out 109 build...LOL...add another $65,000...
I'm die hard "Keep it some what Original"
 
Oh well...If you truly like it, go for it. I saw some pics of your car and it does have a helluva paint job!

kawasaki zx 14- 14k-low 9sec passes all day long. and you can carry one of those sweet milk machines with ya! then you can go to a mile 1 track and make close to 200mph passes.it dont get any better than that. except for riding one of those milk machines!
 
Cheap, Fast, Reliable.. pick two.

The big issue is where to stop. As your always chasing the clock. The way I look at it, to build a reliable 9 sec car, build an 8 sec one and detune it. If you build a 9 sec capable and constantly run it in the 9's.. your going to cough up parts constantly. Weight is the biggest enemy. As it requires more power to achieve a goal. This weekend I just broke into the 8's with my fox body.. its taken me years. The motor has been for the major part very reliable. And the faster the goals.. the more of a race car it turns into. Little things like transmission and rear ends.. posi vs spool, OD vs non-OD, etc.. take away. The money on electronics is where most never account for.

Whatever you think it will cost.. double it.

Anyone have direct experience building a 9sec car from some other vehicle/powertrain configuration than a V6 Buick? Is the build cost relatively same for this level of performance?

You guys are breaking my heart with the build budgets you are quoting. Looks like i'm destined to live with my screen name forever.

Its not just the engine, its everything else around it to support it. Irreguardless of engine...suspension, chassis, brakes, safety equipment. Just a stupid parachute and mount will set you back 1K. Axles, roll cage, SFI everything.. its the stuff you dont see that gets you.

A set of mediocre wheels and tires is 2k. Labor costs to fab custom items.. and then changes to the plan.

Its the not building a death trap that costs $$$. Understand the speed involved and stopping the missile once launched .
 
been 5.95 @125 in the 8th for less than 30k. That was at 3250 pounds too. 86 mustang. The secret to this kinda thing is save your money and buy a complete car that someone else has sunk their time and money in. You can get a quick car for a deal if you keep your options open. I think if you didn't care what it looked like you could probably have a car that would go mid 9's for around 15k. It would be a shit-box though! And if you wanna go 9's fairly cheap don't walk but run away from the turbo Buicks lol.

yeah, but the thread title is "the cost of building..." not the cost buying someone else's stuff..........other than that you're right
