Just this past Saturday Guy asked me if that was a turbo 8 or 6

Then I heard too old times say as they walked around my limited. Been a long time since they made these! yup about 21 years to be exact!

I was thinking of this quote and just found it. An older Corvette guy asked me the same Q so I gave him this answer. 2 weeks later there is something on his hood. I have not been able to catch him sitting still to see what he put on his hood. His is about an 88 Vette.

.....last summer, I was about to pull out of a parking spot at a grocery store and an older guy in a new 'vette pulls up along side me. He says " what's that gauge on the hood?".....I say "it's a clock"...he says " why is it mounted outside the cabin".....I say " Buick engineers decided it kept better time when mounted outside "....he says " that's a good idea....come to think of it, I've seen some others Buicks with the clock on the hood"

.....ignorance has no boundries....

Two weeks ago "is it the stock v6"

My buddy with his 87 GN raced a guy once and spanked him. They claimed we were spraying nitrous or had an alky kit. We let them all look the car over from head to tail and despite the fact that they could not find anything, they were still saying we cheated. We just let them make excuses for getting beat by a six cylinder.
By far the funniest thing I've heard was another race we went to. We were negotiating the terms and one of the guys told us to take the turbo off and it might be more fair. My buddy just chuckled and said no.;)

I've noticed that fewer people are calling my car a Monte SS or a 442...

Now when I'm in my T-Type, people are asking if it's a GN. (sigh) Oh well. Close enough....

A number of times I went to the track and the announcer would call "couple of Montes on the line, hard to tell with the sun in my Eyes I think Couple monte's "My buddy had a GNX Clone. After a few more runs of still calling it a Monte and my brother saying on the tape somebody's got to tune this guy in. Not too mention it's screwin unknowing people up more. After watching the tape in the stands I went over to the race announcer who is about 45-50 yrs old "My car is a 87 Buick Grand National NOT a Monte They were popular in your day its a V6 and it's written on my Tech card in front of you". Well did a couple more runs and checked the tape He ended up calling it. "hard runnin Buick naaaational" My brother says "Oh well, he got it half right..Idiot."
Can't fix stupid.

I love these stories.

I have a TTA and I had a guy tell me I should have bought the chevy IROC with the v8, it's lighter and faster in 1989. I do not even respond .
My brother in laws , father in law has a 70 Superbee 440 6 pack. its all original w/ 75k on it. automatic w/ 3.23 gears. Every family function i hear about how fast it is. He thinks it's an 11 sec car. I try to explain weight/power/gears.... and all posted times for that car are high 13 to low 14. He just keeps talkin BS. I fillanaly told him in front of the whole family to get his junk, I'll race him for any amount of $$ with my v6, Until then shut the F up. 3 family funtions later, thank god no BS talk anymore!!

It's not happened to me at a car show, but someone at my old shop referred to my car as a Monte.

Then again I also own a 1969 Nova and people have mistook it for a Chevelle.

Then I had a 1971 Chevelle that people mistook for a Nova.

When I was 6 I saw a 1969 Chevelle that was a race car, didn't have any side glass or tail lights or interior....I thought it was a Nova at first.

Then when I was 9 a neighbor had trailered in what I thought was a 1965 Falcon...it turned out to be a 1962 Chevy II, so now I'm getting my payback.

I prefer to go around at car shows and cruise nights and talk to people about their cars.

After you read all the placards and window papers etc., you look at the mods. such as fuel cells, monster tachs., dual quads tunnel rams, huge tires, etc., then you ask the owner what it runs.

Obviously it's a car that's never seen rain or driven anywhere but to and from a "show" but they ALWAYS say it "should" run 10's all day. :D

That's correct.....that's 10's.................................in the 1/8 mile. :D

I pulled up to a napa, had the car dumping out of the downpipe. Anyways while its still running a guy says "oh you put a big block in there eh." Kinda looked at him weird and said no. "Oh well then a 350?". I said "no its the 231 v6". He about dumped his pants. I told him after messing with him a while it has a lopey cam in it and the exhaust dumps under my feet thats why it sounded so big. The guy was pretty cool.

Ohg and he was staring at the 3.8sfi badges the whole time.

Hate the stupid supercharged thing. makes my blood boil. I don't like supers much at all just turbos.

I was told to put a 350 in it by an old neighbor. Told him no the v6 is good. Well he laughed at me and thought the car was slow till I was burning rubber to the next block.

I went to a cruise in tonight in my T-Type and was asked by 2 different people "Why did you paint yours silver? They are supposed to be black."

I said "I just wanted to be different I guess!"

I've probably heard all these comments in the 20 years or so i've been going to cruise nights or car shows. Thats why I really don't have an interest in going to many anymore. All these lawn chair experts telling ya how fast there big block yada yada goes in the 1/4 mile when they never have even been to the track. Most of these show queens can't even run a 14 second 1/4 mile. Plus it gets REAL boring seeing the same cars at EVERY cruise night, and the owners talking the same sh*t. I'd much prefer having some fun at the track. Show chrome and fuzzy dice won't help you there.

Exactly! Track guys know their stuff in most cases cuz they actually RACE!! where the "car show crowd" is usually just dumb asses that say coulda, shoulda, woulda a lot after spending $$$ on Go Fast Parts! (thats the funny part to me! Why buy Go Fast Parts just to say I have this & that & NO TIMESLIP!!!) Not into car shows much at all just because of that kinda BS!
$$$ to spend & scared of the track!!
Give me the Track crowd anyday!!

I can't wait until they see my TNX 001 dash plate, the emblems, the interior, the shield, etc.. and start schooling me about how their buddy had a TNX with twin cermamic superchargers, 350's, etc... :D

My favorite was when some guy tells his girl it had a chevy motor in it because the spark plug wires came from the back.

I said nothing gets past you man.

I don't even open the hood anymore.

I do leave a few low-mid 11 second timeslips on the dash though.

My 71 and 70 Chevelles were Novas, my 1978 and 2002 Camaro was a Firechicken, my 78 Malibu is a Monte Carlo or a Chrysler K Car, my buick Gn is a monte carlo, etc. etcl.....people dont know. We are freaks of nature, and we pay attention to details that most would not... I've come to accept it. I did have a kid, 20-something, hang his body completely out of the car and scream at me as he drove by, telling me that he loved Grand Nationals...I thought that was pretty impressive. I still get more attention driving my 86 GN then I ever did driving my immaculately restored 70 Chevelle SS396 4 spd. Funny stuff... :)

I had a Monte so I never hated the "nice Monte" comments.
But yesterday I was driving my 68 Chevelle and I got my first "nice Nova, what year is it" so I just replied "thanks it's a 68"

The way I see it "they" don't have to compliment our cars they obviously think the car is nice enough to earn a compliment so why not accept it gracefully with out making them look like dummies. Anyway then he says "WOW 68 I hope you enjoy it" and he drove off. He didn't know what model was my car but he looked at my car though it was a cool car and went out his way to say something nice.
BTW every time I come across a GN on the street I always say "Nice Monte" and "is it the turbo 305 or is it the twin turbo 4.3"

I ve posted this story on here before I think. But its funny, so ill post it again.. Im in the military. And inside Post, you have alot of the soldiers with differen, so call races cars.. Any ways, i was on my way out of post, i stoped at the gas station before exiting. I was sipping on a drink waiting for the Buick to fill up. When a beat up IROC, pulled next to me.. the guy was playing his music loaud and flooring the gas pedal so i can hear his mighty V8 lol.. the passenger gets off , and looks at my car, and start to stare at it...
HIM: yo, this is a nice car..
Me: thanks.
him: yo, this is a GNX...
me: (smiling) Nah... this is a Limited Turbo
him: nah man, you dont know what you have.. I seen this cars on t.v.. this is a GNX..

so after a few no's from me, and a few yes from him. i knew i wasnt going to win.. so i said forget it and stop trying. i told him it was a GNX and they have only made like 500 of them..lol.. he took some pictures of the car and started telling his friend in the IROC how bad ass my car was an blah blah blah. the funy part was that he told his friend that i would smoke his IROC any day in the month. His friend just look at my car crazy , like huh??
My car is a 87 Limited. so i dont see how he confused it with a GNX.

just another V8 story for you guys...
I was having a conversation with a buddy of mine about motor cycles (bikes),
we were talking about all the bikes that are out there. he was telling me how he wants to get one but isnt sure what to get. so there we are talking when another (new) co-woker jumps in into are conversation. He says, : i dont know anything about bikes, but i can give you any advice in cars. thats my cup of coffee". so i ask him, what type of car he has. He starts telling me he has a 96 cadillac de'ville or something like that. and how and his boys have a car club, and blah blah blah. so he ask me what i had. I told him i had an 87 Buick Regal Limited Turbo. He is like wow, thos are nice cars. i said thanks.. he ask if i wanted to sell it, i responded with a "never". then he said if i would sell him the car he would pull out the V6 Turbo out and but a 350 Carb motor in it, and ut some 24 on the car. i was like oh brother,, this guy doesnt know what the hell he is talking about.. he said he has a 350 in his garage that has been bored 60 over. and has this big cam, an has an edelbrock intake and carb. i try hard not to laught. but i said thats cool.. but i simply told him i keep the V6 Turbo in it, because its good on gas miliage. if not i would also put a 350 thats been cut 60 over...lol..lol..lol...lol..lol..lol..lol..lol..lol.. you have to love the stories that other people tell you sometimes...lol.... :D
