Has anyone had any experience running these wheels? The theory is
they're shaped like a jet or gas turbine engine blade. It has more surface area so it moves more air. A Turbine engine has multiple compression stages. They also have to keep temps
under control. They laser cut microscopic tear drop shapes in the blades for cooling. So I have no idea why they're shaped for more surface area.
Has anyone tested these? Hopefully
Bison or Patric can give some insight into this design.

That's the wheel Turbonetics uses right? It does look cool; I'm interested if it makes any difference though. I'd expect any difference to be only when running the wheel all out.
 
That looks like a higher pressure wheel. These wheels are becoming more common as the racing market grows. "Batmowheels"
 
Bullseye Batmowheel…. supposed to be a beast! i think they call it Extended Tip Technology, There was a guy on this board that was going to experiment.
 
This one is an 88 if I remember right.

It's cool to see what people are doing now. With a 5 axis mill you can rapid prototype wheels for R&D without having to cast 100-1000 at a time. Look at how much machined wheels have changed in such a short time.
I want to see bore-less wheels made
Like the wheels now. Same wheels just get rid of the hole and the nut.
 
I work at a turbine shop And have seen these. I'm a maintenance tech so I "only" keep the machine running and accurate but when I asked engineering they explained that it aids in reducing bypass losses and improves the overall efficient of the unit especially in the upper pressure ranges ie max power. Given that I could see where they may help.

At what boost pressures are they supposed to be more efficient? 25 /30/35 + ?
 
These wheels perform very well at 30+psi. Like most of the Borg based stuff, they can b taken to 4.5+ PR.

DAMN! That's a crazy pressure ratio, but I suppose that's what it takes. I thought 3:1 was normal and about all most did. Thanks.

If you're looking to make 1400hp you aren't doing it at 3:1 on these small engines. It takes a lot of mass flow and the only way that's happening is boost and rpm.
