Ok, who here has went to one of those credit card debt consolidators to pay off their credit card debt? My credit card bills are killing me (some as much as 30% interest!)..I want to get all them paid off and just pay a lower montly rate...What companies are the best to do this?? Are there any gimmicks??

You're going to have to stop using them and get in a habit of paying the bill a week in advance to stop any future penalties and rate hikes. When you get the cards down to nothing keep the one with the biggest amount you can borrow on as that will help rebuild your credit. Having cards for a long time with no money on them and high limits helps helps rebuild your credit.

A lot of those consolidated deals have a high rate also so it's time to start selling off stuff, maybe asking for a personal loan and also pay them down.

Stay away, they will take your money and you will still owe the debts. They will want thousands of dollars from a broke person (you).
Real Debt Help - Get out of debt with Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover Plan. will show you how to get back on track. Step one: cut up your credit cards.

X2 for Dave Ramsey. At least until you can get your spending habits under control. Cash is your friend and your ability to control your cashflow is crucial.

Read the books and form a plan. Write it down and stick to it as best you can.

X3 for Dave Ramsey

I cut up my credit cards, cut my spending and have paid off 30K in the past 18 months. 8K left and I will be debt free, except for the house.

Dave Ramsey tells it straight.

He is on the Fox Business Channel at 8 PM on weeknights, and has reruns on the weekends. Also on some of the talk radio stations.

It takes a lot of discipline, but you can do it!

X3 Dave Ramsey, I've paid off 12K in the last 8 months. Couldn't have done it with out him.

Is it really worth the $90 to sign up for Ramsey for the year?

Dave Ramsey X 100 It works. The wife doesn't like it too much though.

I have listened to Dave for years but I really need to follow his advice a LOT better than I do.

For Stack 1

Instead of the yearly thing for Dave Ramsey, watch the TV show and buy the book. Even just watching the show will give you the information and motivation you need.

I signed up for the free trial. They give you the book when you sign up for a year. Hopefully this helps us to get our expenses under control.

I used a consolidator years ago... I dont have any complaints really. The difficult thing is they ALL seem shady and are for the most part online only businesses. Mine was some outfit in Florida.

The big thing they do that you can do yourself is negotiate the interest and sometimes even the balance down. However, I also altered my spending and sold some crap to get quick cashflow. Without changing your habits nothing will work.
