I have been off the board for a while. I have had the T/A motor in for a month waiting for the converter- I have it in now. I cut and fit the mid plate, but do not have it locked in yet. I need to get the transmission in for final allignment. My question is in ref to a CSI ( fiberglass) one piece trans shield I bought over a year ago. It was suggested by a Chuck Leaper - I know him only thru this board. Understand I have no problem with his recomendation. I have the 400 trans and the CSI unit fits nicely over it- holes line up ect. However, last night we tried to set it up in there and the top of the shield interfers with the underside of the floor. I need to say I am using the stock GN cross member and H&R Parts 400 trans mount adapter. However, I had to use a pry bar to get the mount to fit between the tail housing of the trans and the cross member. When I do this , it jams the trans up against the floor of the car and then the I can not get the bell housing holes to line up with the motor. Its off about 1/4- 3/8 of an inch. Any one have any history with this or suggestoins. Thanks Larry

Larry,
Although i cannot help you with the missing clearance i can tell you this. The CSI shiled is a PIA to put on even with the correct clearance. Trust me on this one. Cal and i did one on a S2 car and it was a very unpleasant task. The bottom 4 bolts arent so bad but the top ones are a different story.

If you can do install the motor-trans and mid plate in at the same time then it would not be an issue. But im pretty sure you wont be able to do it with the plate installed.

I considered doing one in my car but i also considered cutting access holes on the top 2 bolts and then plugging them with rubber body plugs.

The CSI shield is a very nice unit its just a pain in our cars. There are no other shieds to fit our cars without one issue or another.

Good Luck

We just put a Hughes trans shield [metal one] on D!ck Kereny's TSM car and it ft very tight at the body also. He is using the HR mount kit for a TH 400.

On my car, the Hugh's shield fit easily, but I fabricated my crossmember and used a stock-type trans mount.

This info may not be directly applicable, but I would think the trans is sitting higher?

Hey, thanks guys. This weekend I guess I break out the sawzal and I am sure it will fit nicely. I can see the top bolts are not going to be easy. It will button up one way or the other therer is no turning back now. Larry
