Hey guys, I got these massive ported stock heads that are port matched to a 1200. I tried 2 different type of fel pro pans and they are to small. the 1200's fit perfectly. Problem is where do I cut the valley pan? if i cut under the ports to let it sit on the edge of the heads the metal is in the way of the 1200's. I dont like it. There was a guy on here with a link that showed a picture of a cut valley pan for a 1200. But the link is DEAD :(. Can anyone show me pics? I would truly appreciate it.
thanks,
Ralph

Im in the same situation as you are gnfanatic. I have the 1200 portmatched heads.

I bought a valley-pan Fel-Pro gasket, and opened up the ports with a dremel tool. I took my time and was able to make them work while using the valley pan. Now the PCV doesnt suck up oil! Post here when you figure out what you are going to do.

Thanks Louie! , question though, becuase of the high spots in the cut, thats why it stays in plac? and doesnt high spots get in the way of the 1200's?
thanks

guys, I am thinking of not using the valley pan idea at all and put the pcv valve in the pass side valve cover , take the breather out, get a smaller grommet and slap it in.
ever hear of this>
thanks

The high spots lay on top of the 1200, just barely. There are no issues with this install, this is how they are all done. My buddies valley pan on his stage motor is a duplicate of mine.

The only hard part is to get the pan in there all lined up. Cause it has tension it some times gives me the fits, but once its on its on.

Good Luck

thanks Louie for the pics . I had mine cut simular to yours . And when I did a tear down had noticed the edge of the valley pan had cut right threw the 1200's . VERY close just below the seal .

"The high spots lay on top of the 1200??" Do you put the Valley Pan between 1200 gasket and manifold ? Or between head and 1200's ? Thanks

Ive always put mine on top.;) Never had the gasket cut. I guess if the pan has enough tension and sharp edges it can happen.

hhhmmmm. I am thinking of putting the pcv valve in the pass side valve cover where the breather is and screw the pan. I dont like the idea of the pan jsut sitting there, what happens if it eventually falls from vibration and heat?and what happens if it starts rubbing agaisnt the pushrods? metal going all over little by little, thats what scares me, I rather just relocate the pcv. i will see how it wokrs,
see ya
any opinions on this?

On top . so you mean between the gasket and intake , correct? I had mine between the head and gasket . I'll have to try the other way . Thanks.

May want to try this idea, been working for me for years.
I ditch the valley pan all together. Have tried cutting it before and all that seems to happen is leaks at the rear of the manifold.
I build a little 3 sided box around 1/2" tall couple inches wide and weld it to the bottom of the intake leaving the open side to the rear. Should be able to get most fab. shops to do it for less than
$30 elimanates all the fighting with the valley pan if you ever pull the heads off in a hurry.

So why not just lay the 1200's on top of the stock style gasket, draw the bottom edge of the 1200 onto the stock piece and trim the intake gasket below the the line for clearance?

Louie, can you post the pics on here (since Im sure there are others who are intrested too)? Or email them to me? I need to do the same thing and am looking for ideas. Thanks.

We are not allowed to post pics here , but i will send them to u.:)

1200

Radius i think you will find that the stock will not have enough support if trimed that way.
Another choice is notch the 1200 now you can have tabs on the stock piece. This worked for me.
Also Automotive Machine makes a oil shield supported by the block that should work with the 1200 for 35.00.
