Does anybody know what a D5 can be re-stalled to? Coan Racing is less than 20 miles from me, so I called them yesterday about having my converter re-stalled. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone said stall speed can only be raised 400 rpm from stock. I have a re-stalled D5 and it only stalls at 2200 rpm at 0 boost. I was hoping to raise it up to about 2800 rpm.
I know the orange stripe is supposed to be 3000 rpm, but have read that they do not actually stall that high (more like around 2200). Thoughts???

i had an orange strip years ago, stalled to 2800 then had it loosened even more and finally got 3200 out of it.never got the job done though.i believe the d5 can be loosened to 2800,some guys had good luck with that my car responded better with the smaller diameter converters.

A 10" TC would be more efficient at those Stall ratings. A 9.5" TC for higher Stall. Check with Dusty on here.

The stock stall is around 1800 rpm at 0-1# of boost. So your re-stalled D5 is acting just as I'd expect it to. He is correct. A re-stalled D5 will stall 400 rpm higher than stock. I have never had a 12" stall higher than 2500-2600 rpm unless it had something wrong with it or it was terribly loose in high gear. If you want a stall higher than 2200 rpm I'd suggest going to a 10"
