Can anyone provide a list or start one?
Year plant closed too?

My son has a PRE-project about manufacturing he is working on.

Van Nuys, California. Camaro/Firebird plant. Shut down in 1992.

Now in place of the plant is a retail center and movie theater. I'm sure all those jobs pay as well as the GM factory jobs did. Yeah right. Isn't progress great?

Norwood, Ohio, Camaro/Firebird plant is now a shopping center
and the Hamilton, Ohio stamping plant is now empty.

The Leeds Plant here in Kansas City.:( Not sure when it closed, early 80's maybe, but I think it opened in the mid 20's. I was able to go through it a few years ago and what a strange place. There were air hoses and air tools still hanging from the rafters, looked like the workers just walked away and turned out the lights. Of course, it was dirty and people had trashed some of it but you could still see the paint booths, the assembly line with the tracks the cars rode on...it was very cool. I stopped and looked around and it was very easy to imagine all the workers from days gone by building some of the best cars ever to hit the streets...Big block Chevelles, Impalas, Caprices, etc. Brought a tear to my eye:(

Steve,

You got me wondering if there were any other GM plants here in CA other than the Van Nuys plant I well remember. After a quick Google search I found out GM had another plant here in South Gate, CA that closed in 1982. It sounds like they made Chevy Impalas there in the '60s. Being that I was only 10 years old when this plant closed I never even knew it existed. Interesting. Hope this helps. :)

These days the only thing produced in South Gate is a new crop of illegals........  .

Thanks all for the info.

I think a few more exist in Tarrytown NY? and Linden NJ??
Whatever happened to our NY NJ friends in here?

From what I heard the Fiero Plant (killed in 88) still had 1/2 and 3/4 finished cars on the line, and parts everywhere... It was like everyone left work friday and never came back....

Framingham Mass. had a GM plant too. Forget when it closed.

Yes Tarrytown had a plant right on the water, it has been since torn down and they are trying to get condos built there I believe
I think they last built those ugly minivans there

Linden plant still hanging in there.....barely. They produce the old body-style 2WD Blazer and S-10/Sonoma pickup twins. I'm not sure what they'll make when the body switches over to the newer design.

Ewing, NJ had a Fisher-Guide/Delphi component plant up until about 4 years ago that is since leveled. MAJOR BIG contamination site now.
