Just got off the phone with my trans builder and he is redoing the trans after I lost the intermediate band. Says upon pulling out several o rings that were breaking down/disintegrating and he wondered what fluid I was using. Told him VI and he stated he would like me to go back to III stating he is only seen VI used in Allison. Most of his builds are TH400s nowadays for racing and those guys aren't using the VI either. I know many on here use it and I put it in my rebuild due to that but now I wonder if any have had issues that could be related to VI.

I have never seen one and I also recommend Dex 6 to my 400 customers.

I dont see where I ever posted there. http://www.extremeautomatics.com/techinfo.html The transmission installation instruction sheet (PDF) that includes My fluid recommendation from 2008. So I would say no my opinion has not changed. Dex 6 is the replacement for Dex 3. They are compatible. I have never had an issue with Dex 6 seals or otherwise. The post listed exactly what my instructions say. Dex 3 will smooth out shifts and Type F will make them firmer.

... Not trying to stir ...., just looking for clarification.
http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/transmission-talk/296183-dexron-6-trans-fluid.html Post #3, I'm reading things now from doing a search where others outside the Buick world have stated o-ring issues.

As I posted in that 2009 thread, we were using Dex VI with great results, and 2 years later we have even MORE excellent results for strip and street cars.

A TH400 with trans brake would kill Type F after a month of racing, Dex VI has lasted a full season.

On street driven cars, results have also been more than favorable.

No o-ring issues have been found, or experienced, at all in any of the many different transmissions we have serviced?

Lonnie and I discussed Dex VI use a couple years ago and fully agree as to its improved benefits, especially the ability for it to hold up the high temps in the performance builds as compared to Dex III, and especially Type F.

Been running Dex 6 for a couple years now without any issues. Only thing it ever hurt was my wallet.

Dex VI is much more durable than dexIII and type f shouldn't be used in anything that has any real power unless it's changed frequently.

Can type "F" be swapped out for the new Dex fluid without any hassle?
You won't be able to get all the type f out without a few changes. No problem swapping it though
