someone completely clueless, I suppose....?

Right now I am so glad I work night shift.. I was checking out the traffic cams in the morning.... just like reality TV, oh wait, it is Reality TV....:p

On a serious note... I am a UPW member, and it appears that we are the only union that did not ask for raises this year...at all. I know a lot of guys in the private sector that havent gotten raises for 3 years or more, and these guys want more? Sorry, no sympathy from me... let em walk the picket lines for as long as they want. I hope the City doesnt budge on this one. People can learn to live with more traffic, maybe it will teach more of us to carpool, or use alternative means of transportation....

Hmmm.........

All I can say is, It's a shame that it had to come to a strike. :( Many a people depend on such a service and its sad that goverment, OTS (TheBus), and its rank and file (Union) have to play politics on the backs of the general public.

Don't believe everything that comes from the media.

Gerald,

I agree with all that you are saying, and althought the public depends on the service, they should also have an alternate means to get to work/school etc, in case something like this occurs....

It did not have to come to a strike, as the rank and file voted to strike, and they should have realized the potential for disaster when they did. It appears they thought the city would buckle and give them what they want, by their "strategic methods" (or Blackmail...) Political games are played everyday on the public, and working for the City, I see more of it than I care to remember.

Yes, we all lose, and its unfortunate...

:(

Amen to that...

I'm sure we have all seen the media blitz by the Teamsters Union... and I guess I'm immune to the BS the unions talk. or maybe I'm a bit peeved that UPW didnt do the same all the other unions did.

Yet I am kinda proud they would make that stand, no matter how unpopular the decision may have been. It shows good faith that UPW understands the economic problems faced by the state of Hawaii, and are willing to do their part to help.

Ideally yah, they should have a secondary means of getting around. But the truth is, and the reality of it is most people don't. Hawaii is an expensive place to live and alot of people I know have 2 sources of income just to make ends meet. The Bus is the only way for some people, especially the ones with single source incomes to get around. You ask the elderly on fixed income, they'll tell you that other sources of transportation are not options for them because of the added expense. TheBus is a very reliable, dependable way for these people to get around.

Heck, not too many people I know on side of you, can say hmm, which shall I drive the SS or the truck? Think I'll take the bike.:D :D

Well, there's you and Bruce Wayne.:D :D Oh yah and Les:eek:

Hey, I'm feeling the pinch too,:(

I cancelled the insurance on the SS just recently, because it did not make economic sense to pay 800-900/year for a car that I drove less than 500 miles since last June. (I do keep comprehensive coverage on it, just in case of "acts of god".

But hey, we all have friends, and thats what they are for, to help each other out in times like this. Carpool, Vanpool, etc. Even though my wife has paid for by employer parking, she and her freinds are considering "vanpool" just so they all dont have to deal with the grief (Imagine if you will, a van full of PMS'ers...):D of daily driving... not to mention just having people to talk to...

Just imagine when they get older.... a van of hot flashing mentol pausers. Hot flash, Hot flash, Hot flash! Yikes!:D :D

I hear you too buddy. Seems everyones finding they have to pinch here and there to live here. I guess that's the cost of living in Hawaii. The price of paradise you could say. And I guess that's why more and more locals move to the mainland. Seems the price of paradise may be too much. That's probably why we loose good policemen and teachers too. The cost of living here must be too high for them.

I'm BATMAN!

"Bruce Wayne"?

I almost lost my coffee reading that. Howzit, Gerald? You talkin' about me, right?:D

How you holdin' up far? Any good progress to report?
Take care, bro!

Hell yeah,

look at the entry-level pay for those as well as any profession here in Hawaii. well below industry standard, its no wonder these folks leave for greener pastures...

Steve, yeah, that applies to you too...more than one vehicle...

Anyone was listening to the radio on Tuesday?

Most of the DJ's and callers was not in favor of the The Bus guys going on strike. The were mentioning that it was mainly the Bus driver's on strike and said the Bus driver's get paid more than the any of the city workers including the Police and Firemans.

Seen a poll on the news and said that there was a 84% not in favor of the strike and the 16% was in favor.

I feel sorry for those guys waiting at the bus stop...thinking the bus is going to come around.
