Can someone explane to me in great detail what the difference between odd fire and even fire 231 v6 buick is. I have books that go back to the 60's and they have the 1,6,5,4,3,2 firing order and none of them say anything about the odd fire 231 v6 buick.

Odd fire motors have a crank more like a V8. Two rods per journal instead of the split throws. The firing interval is obviously different. I forget the exact# but it seems like 90 and 120 degrees. The idle is rougher due to the uneven firing. The distributor cap is different although I THINK (not sure) the firing order is the same. The cam is also ground differently. If you hear an odd fire and even fire motor side by side you can hear the difference. IMO the even fire sounds much better. Basically instead of firing evenly at 120(?) degree intervals there's a gap(s) in the firing order.

I hope this didn't confuse more than help. I know how they work but I have a hard time explaining it. You might get more answers in the tech area.

Nope. But if you're building a motor I know there is heavy duty oddfire hardware out there. I've seen a guy going low 10s with no turbo or nitrous with an oddfire Buick V6. Kenne Duttweiler built that motor.

I sold my son a '76 LUV 4x4 with an odd-fire V6 in it, I LOVED how it sounds compared to the even-fire! And it doesn't have a "different" distributor cap, it has 6 evenly spaced towers...what it DOES have is a "different" ROTOR with a long "T" shaped snout...

I have been looking for parts for my 225 v6 and have been coming up empty, if you could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Duttweiler should have info on where to find the oddfire stuff. The guy I knew of was Bill Chaffen with the police car Regal that ran bottom 10s no turbo, no nitrous. Last I heard he had switched to even fire but he might know where to find the stuff too.

As you can tell, I'm still a newbie to this area, how might I find and or contact these people?
