Why do I get the "dinging" sound when I turn my headlights on? Its very faint (has been since I bought it) but it is the same sound I get when the key is in the ignition and the door is open. Its not a big deal since I can't hear it when I'm driving anyway but just wandering why and if it can be fixed.
Thanks, Steve

It's the warning module, or what we call the chime under the dash. It's hiding up under the dash between the steering column and the radio/HVAC control pod. It has a printed circuit board that cracks over time which causes the light to come on or it makes faint noises at all times. It tells you if you left the headlamps on or the key in the ignition and whether the drivers seat belt is buckled. It was an option on any year of Regal so if you don't have one it can be added rather easily. We sell new ones for $55.95 and good used ones for $25.00.

So my 84 was probably optioned with one but it has gone bad over time. If it poses no problem I'll replace it eventually but not high on my list of priorities right now. Thanks

mine is barely audible when it goes off- just loud enough to make you think you are hearing things, but not loud enough to make you realize you left your headlights on.

Exactly!! But mine is dinging when the car is running and the lights are on but the engine is loud enough that you can't hear it at all when you are driving.
