I've moved this discussion from the Southwestern section to try and get more feedback on this idea. I'll be copying some of the posts from that thread to try and get this thread up to speed.

Basically, I'm trying to come up with a national organization the promotes turbocharged vehicles in a racing atmosphere.

The latest idea for a name of the organization is: National Independent Turbo Racers Organization. NITRO

A name is not cast in stone now and your suggestions are welcome.
 
I have a dream! A new class and form of racing.

The turbocharged ranks have been held down long enough. Rules abound in different forms to squash the guy with a turbocharger. Even within our own ranks, people manipulating rules to keep most people from participating. It's time to open the flood gates and let turbocharging grow to it's fullest potential.

The first and foremost rule will be, anything with a functioning turbocharger(s) is allowed! This rule will be treated as if an amendment to the constitution.

This will not be heads up racing, but a form of tight bracketing so that everyone has a chance to participate. From the beginner to the professional.

The second rule will be, anything goes. People will be allowed to race whatever they have as long as it has a turbocharger(s).

People will run qualifying runs and will be assigned a bracket. The spread on the bracket will be purposefully tight to discourage sand bagging. Blatant sand bagging will be cause for disqualification.

I'm hot to see some innovation in the field of turbocharging.
 
Quick 8 or 16 Heads Up Runoff

For the sake of wild and crazy entertainment. The quickest 8 or 16 will have a heads up runoff. I'm thinking 8 so that more time can be available for the brackets.

My main concern with this is the small guy that wants to get in and mix it up with the big boys.

The bracketing will also promote new technology and methods to make a turbo car a consistent runner. We all know how turbo cars stack up to the N/A cars as far as ET consistency. We need to work on that. And what better way than to match turbo car to turbo car in a no rules type of arrangement.
 
No rule will force a racer to change the equipment on their car, except in the interest of safety. This is meant to keep budgets under control.

I'm thinking the brackets should be tight to discourage sandbagging. Every half or third of a second maybe?
 
My initial thoughts are to not make this a Buick only thing. Anyone with the love for turbocharging is welcome. Any fuel, any additional power adders, etc. This would involve diesels also. Anything with a turbocharger slung on it.

This would not really be a contest to see who is the biggest and baddest, although that would be determined by the quick 8 or 16, but a meeting of the minds. a chance for people to get together and see what new and innovative ideas are brewing. Like a fair for the turbocharger guy.

The technological advancement would be amazing.

Since Buick led the way with turbocharging, I would, of course, hope that Buicks would be a major force in the startup of this.
 
Don, I have been thinking the same thing for a while but calling it TWTF, not very PC of a name. LOL We are building a Buick V6 with a CSU blow through Carb just to be different. Converting from a hot air to intercooled we said what the heck. My son has been following your build up for some time. He has taken some classes taught by David Vizard who has done it all in motor sports and David George who was with the Nissan GTP team in the early 90’s, F1, and Toyota Indy program, and now with Yates racing. After taking these classes he really wanted to run our car on methanol like you but Keven at CSU has not had luck running methanol through his carbs yet. Your header setup up is just what he wanted to do as well, equal length. Maybe at a later date for us on the headers and methanol.LOL We need a class to run as you should see people when we tell them what we are doing, we get a big why or are you crazy. We have all the hardware to go back to the 86/87 FI setup if we have to. We are building the car to go on to bigger things if we have to so a turbo BBC may be in the future plans.

A very good example of the progressive type of thinking we all need to encourage somehow. The rules of this new racing format must be such that this kind of thinking is not fooh fooh'd. Buick led the way with turbocharging and should continue.
 
An idea I've come up with.
Why not have a series of manufacturer specific events throughout the year across the country. Subarus against Subarus, Toyotas against Toyotas, diesel trucks against diesel trucks, Buicks against Buicks, etc., etc. The number of events per year, per team to be determined. A contestant will accumulate team points from each of the manufacturer specific meets so that a manufacturer's team champion can be crowned. As long as any contestant has participated in one of the manufacturer's specific meets, they are eligible to participate in the Annual Manufacturer's World Championship event with team going against team, giving the crowd a favorite manufacturer to cheer for. Maybe even setting up team spectator sections in the stands. Still providing a quick 8 or 16 venue at each level. And having a modified type of bracketing so that everyone can participate in the fun.
 
The series of manufacturer meets will be spread across the country well enough so that anyone will have a chance to get in that one qualifying meet for the annual championship meet. That way, people on a budget that can't make long trips to a track or just want to attend 2 meets a year (one team meet, one annual championship meet) can do so and still feel involved.

Remember. The idea is to include everyone.

This is long overdue. I'm tired of turbocharging being looked at the way nitrous was decades ago. It's time to eliminate the boundaries put on turbocharging by 'the man'. Are you with me? Are you with me? Com'on now. Don't be shy. This is your chance to break free from the chains that anchor us. Move that bus!!! And great things will be seen.

That's what I thought. It would bring a bit a team spirit into the mix. If one of us got knocked out of the competition, hopefully, we'd still have a team member to cheer on.

National Independent Turbo Racers Organization
Mission Statement​

The National Independent Turbo Racing Organization, henceforth to be known as NITRO, will be dedicated to making available to every turbocharger enthusiast an atmosphere of competitive participation and the chance to share new and upcoming technologies and technics related to turbochargers and their use. The lack of rules for this racing organization will be purposely upheld to encourage cutting edge technologies and technics to be explored and nurtured.



This is a rough draft, so feel free to give any suggestions.
 
I've started thinking of what zones should be setup across the country. The number of zones and the number of organization representatives for each of these zones. More importantly, who these people will be. We need to come up with a way to enlist these reps. Maybe have a zone come up with a candidate that could be voted on by the zone area participants. Or should the reps be hand picked. What do you guys think?

I was thinking 6 zones.
Northern/Pacific
Southern/Pacific
Northern/Central
Southern/Central
North/Eastern
South/Eastern

2 reps per zone to coordinate with and help organize series events. Maybe more reps depending on how many manufacturer teams per zone there are. All zone reps will discuss and vote on the location for the big Annual Manufacturer's Championship event.

After we have a permanent name for the organization, I'll start working on a website for the same.

If and when the organization begins to recruit sponsorship for the organization, no one, or group of, sponsors will be allowed to manipulate the rules. Henceforth, known officially as 'The Rules'. The creative freedom of the participants of the organization will be paramount.
 
I'm with you Don, I have kicked it around with my son for some ideas for classes. Thought about classes bases on turbo size as one turbo will only flow enough to support so much HP. It would be up to the racer to make the most said turbo. Just one idea for now.

I like it, could also offer a better chance for those of us who don't have many local turbo enthusiasts, to get out and meet not only potential friends, but also open up a world of knowledge, one may not have previously had at their disposal....

I've got my GN and a Typhoon, and I'd love something like this...
