I have all my bolts bagged and labled but can not find my cam gear bolts. I know this is not a good thing so I went and bought two new grade 8 bolts.

I can not remeber if they have lock washers or not. The factoy manual does not seem to say anything about it. Sorry for the "dummy I lost my cam bolts question" :) Besides I have never replace a cam before, you have to learn some how>

Thanks
Chris

Chris im pretty sure they dont , use blue locktight , ATR or someone probibly has the GM ones.

No lockwashers, depends on bolt stretch (proper torque) to hold it. Loc-tite won't hurt at all.

be careful with those grade 8 bolts. I for one used them and snapped them off in short order ( with the proper torque ). I had too get them from the general

I just installed my cam /gear last nite . They do have a washer on them , but not a lock washer . :).

bolts

Thanks guys I have never had any problems with anyone around here asking questions.

Thanks!!
Chris

I would seriously recommend you buy ARP or OEM bolts. I went through several grade 8 bolts that broke off before I reached the specified torque on the cam bolts. Maybe the grade 8 bolts I got were sub-standard cheap imports, but they were from a local bolt distributor. I think the addition of loctite might change the torque spec on the bolts??? Remember, Bolt torque specs change depending on if the bolt is lubricated or dry. That is one area of the car that I wouldn't mess around with...you don't want to have to go back in there in the next few months if you don't have too. Just my .02

Yep Tim you where right.
bolts did not last.. I bought them so I figured I would have a go at it.. Just like you said. I called the Buick dealer( I know I Know , don't call the dealer) and its $6.60 each and it will take 5 days to get two bolts. First I am stupid for not finding those bolts and second Im not paying $6.60 each. So where can I find cam bolts That will not cost arm and a leg and five to six days of wait.

Chris

You are in luck! I just got my new bolts today for my 4.1's cam. These are ARP from Jeg's. Part # is: 123-1001. If they don't have them in stock (didn't when I ordered) , try www.cvproducts.com or Scummit! They were like $2.00 each. HTH
