Hi fellas
do you guys think a stall converter will help me improve 1/4 et and if so how much and if so what size and kind. I've read that the ta49 works well with stock converter but I was wondering if a 2800 or 3000 might help. I only go the track about 4 or 5 times a year, but I really want to make the car quicker. zero knock 22lbs of boost. I am leaving at about 4 lbs of boost

r/t .871
60' 1.861
330 5.156
1/8 7.946
mph 88.10
1000 10.357
1/4 12.421
mph 109.15

thanks in advance

Nope...you gota ways to go as far as tuning....whittle it down to a good high 11 seconds..and then look at upgrading the t/c....

Thanks for response
I found a blown gasket in between the header and turbo inlet this should help slot. I'm going to take the headers off and take a good look while changing the gasket

poppy1440,you could make the tune significantly hotter but definetly upgrade the converter.a good converter will wake that 49 right up,well worth the money.

I see no need for a torque convertor upgrade for the ta49. My dads WE4 has the stock conv, and ta49. Once i installed the rjc ball and spring style boost controller, it comes up great.

A good friend of mine just had to do the 2800 red stripe over his 100K stock D5 convertor, he has 009s and ta49 turbo thdp and hooker cat back..

The car changed by like .05 in the 1/4 mile. sixty foot was not changed.

Its running 11.6, so i would say the stock convertor on it was working fairly well, and my car was running 11.7 with the stock turbo around the same time..

If it were my car, i would leave the stock convertor in it, try a ball and spring boost controller, get a meth kit and crank the timing to at least 24 or 25° in first gear.

i'll look into the boost controller.

The reason I was thinking a stall would help is I can only build about 3 - 4 lbs of boost from line. I have vacumn brake and good brakes all around. and a line lock. I have an alky kit already.

You going to spool it up past 3-4psi to launch on the street?

I always left at 0psi on the street and beat everyone else cause they were spinning. Of course i would upgrade the entire rear suspension, that is a must to get the car to hook.

Save your money on the convertor, get that rjc style ball and spring boost controller, they do work and ive used that style alot.
mcmastercarr sells all the parts except the ball.

Is you are talking about the rjc hybrid boost controller from rjc far $ 55.00 or smething else.

Yeah, rjc sells that style boost controller. His has the good ceramic ball that over time works better than new, it beats into the seat to make a nice seal.

I was building them from mcmastercarr parts online, they sell the one with the steel ball, and its fairly cheap, but drilling the hole is alot of fun.
