Dome light to map light equipped dome light conversion

Quick question--is there anything special to taking the standard dome light and replacing it with the 1987 map light/dome combo? I read somewhere that the headliners are different? Is there some special support on the roof or headliner? I need more light in my car. Thanks.

Wish I could tell you but you could add a map light rearview mirror. It is a common upgrade. You will need to run a power wire from the dome to it but otherwise it is a snap to do. The map light overhead is simple also. I remember my headliner opening being square.

I swapped my original round dome light with one that has the map lights. I don't really remember what all it involved, but I think it was pretty straight forward, no difference in the headliner as far as I remember

On the chrome map light There's a bracket that mounts to the roof that the light bolts to and it's bigger than the light by a bit.

The round light bolts directly to the roof
