Bought gbody parts dual fanwith caspers dual relay wiring harness ie. plug and play.turned car on and when scan master read 165 I saw smoke from the new wiring harness. The black wire with white stripe from one of the new relays was burned. No others were affected. The relay from which the black with white stripe wire came from was also hot to the touch.

The fans did not come on. The fans are made in taiwan. My relays on the passenger side fender had a lot of old black crud built up and were scammer around the wires and connectors. I cleaned out the crud with electrical cleaner. I bought the fans in 2011 and just recently installed due to some free time.

Guys I'm not very good with electrical stuff. Any ideas on how to proceed? Could bad passenger side relays be the problem? Do i need a new Casper harness for the 87 GN?

Anyone else experience something similar? How did you fix it?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Guys, needsomeback up here. Also confirm fan relays are on passenger side of car and there are two or three?

Yes they are on the passenger side. High Speed, Low Speed, and Delay Relay

Maybe one of the relays on the harness is defective??? do you have a spare?

The caspers electronics harness comes with 2 relays. Don't have a spare. I will try andhave the caspers relay tested . Any ideas. As to what caused my wire to start smoking. Everything was new.

Is your ground nice and tight ? Did it melt any insulation or did it just get warm? A relay uses a low voltage circuit to control a high voltage circuit ...so maybe the relay is stuck letting high voltage through or something, I would double check the ground and then if that checks out switch the two relays around and see what happens.

Worth a shot... There are a few electricians on this board that can help further: JPolzin, Austin, Keith And Gary all come to mind.

Would not caspers harness have the ground? Would a bad relay whether caspers or my relays on the GN cause the wire insulation to melt? Can relays be tested off the car?
