Id start with a police report for documentation. Small claims is an easy win. Id act fast. If he knows he's going to get served he may close his business if an LLC and re-open under a new name and try and jerk you off. You can go after the assets of the business if he doesn't have the money. You shouldn't need a lawyer. Also go to town hall and see if the tool owes any back taxes on any property. If he does and there's no lien holder you can pay the tax and put a lien on his property immediately. I mean his personal property. Not his business. Once you are a lien holder you can foreclose on him immediately.

The actual BS business belongs to his Dad last I knew. His TR work was on the side done at that shop. I would say that was most of the problem. Not a Mechanic shop for TR's but a Body Shop for all cars with him being knowledgeable of TR's. That is why he takes so long and your car is left outside it's cars getting body work inside the shop your TR is just side work. Body work during the day and TR work at night/weekends.
He is on the other side of the Metroplex from me (maybe 60-80 miles or so) but not the reason I never went there. The reasons stated above were good enough for me.

dude its ur car go get it! get a police escort. if he hasn't done any work then there won't be a work order. I don't understand wat the issue is? get ur car then report him to DMV or report him to DMV now. they will send an inspector over and he will have to explain why he still has ur car and has done nothing to it. then take him to small claims court.

Small claims court. Start the process now and stop posting about it on a message board. You've already been given the advice on here. If your police dept will take a report of this nature(a lot won't because it's a civil matter as of now) get one.

The problem with that nowdays is most local police dept won't deal with bounced checks anymore. You have to go to the d/a and see if they will pursue charges against the persons or business otherwise it's a civil matter to be pursued in small claims court. This world seems to get stupider everyday sometimes. On the lighter side since most of us here are a very tight community. People like this will be called out and tainted as someone to not do business with or trust. It's just a damn shame I grew up in Saginaw. Killa I would be glad to help with your car or direct you to trusted people to get what you want done with your car. I'm in NRH.

Man i have already got my car dude. Weeks ago! I have been trying to get my money... No one will help. They told me it will be a waste of time... Also I haven't been posting anymore. Just thanking the people for their help.

I get that. Small claims court is how you get your money. Find the local district/municipal court where his business is and start there. They will help.
Plenty of free advice was given here on what to do and you won't have to pay anyone. When you explain at the court house what happened they will tell you how to proceed. Don't waste any time because if he decides to disappear and isn't served it will cost you a lot of money to track him down. Nothing good will happen unless you are persistent. Chances are this clown has done this to many people

that is completely incorrect. all police departments have someone that handles checks and fraud. a bounced check is NOT a civil matter it a CRIMINAL matter and a felony in almost every state.
Maybe the police in your area will but the small pd's in tarrant county don't and won't mess with bad checks. It's up to the district attorney if charges are filed or not. The OP contacted the police and they would do nothing about the matter or the bad check, it's civil and to be settled in small claims court. I don't agree with it either. I can understand a $100 check but a $1000 check deserves some jail time and a felony.

He is right Brett they won't do anything it is a waste of time it will take the DA. Killa don't mean to derail the thread but how is this for ya.
A month ago I was involved in a hit and run in my DD, I got his plate # and chased the SOB until it got unsafe in traffic I had my wife call 911 while I was chasing him. They said stop chasing him. Of course I did anyway it got to dangerous. I figured I had his plate # and a description of him that will be enough, the cops came and I placed the report. But do you know the cops said there was not much they could do. What?? $1800.00 worth of damage to my truck and I had to use my own insurance and that SOB get's off scott free.
If no one is hurt and it's deemed minor damage then it is not a high priority for Police. If they were ever to arrest him for something else then maybe they add that to the list of charges but I doubt it.
I know what you mean. I tried cops,lawyers and court . They all said I'm wasting my time ....
