Need to know if block ser. numbers can be used to determine an original motor in an 84 t type. Are these turbo motors different in that area or are they all the same block as a standard 3.8? The guy that owns the car is worried about keeping the car original but upon teardown I've found 2 different piston styles & evidence that it's been apart before.

An original block will have a partial VIN number stamped on the block. The last 8 of the partial VIN will match the last 8 of the VIN plate on the car. The partial VIN is stamped near the starter pad.

The assembly plant stamped the same partial VIN on the transmission case.
