What engines were available in the IROC Z's? I know they offered a 350, but was the 305 offered as well?

damn...I kicked the sh*t out of an IROC the other night and I was told that it was a 305. I was hoping that wasn't true. Oh well.

They came with 350 TPI, 305 TPI (2 versions) and a 305 TBI. The 350 TPI when well driven and with the G92 Option (better rear gear and dual cats) was a high 14 second car on average (Yes some were faster). The 305 TPI w/ five speed could run next to a 350 TPI(only tranny was auto) till about 50 and then the 350's extra torque and displacement would just outgun it. The 305 TPI auto was nothing special and has 2.73 gears and the 305 TBI......well........was just a 305 TBI. Depending on mods I think you could run with or beat a 350 TPI and 305 TPI w/ 5 speed. All dpends on drivers and conditons of vehicles. HTH

And dont forget the even earlier Irocs had carburetors. Mine has the lowest output of all the Irocs with a meager hp rating of 155 hp. Although it handles great it is not quick at all and never was.

The 305 was available in auto & 5 speed. The 350 was available in auto only. Supposedly the torque from the 350 was too much for the 5 speed. If you wanted a convertible, the 305 was the only offering for safety reasons.

Don't forget the 1985 L-69!

305 H.O. (4 bbl carb, same motor as the Monte SS), 190 hp with the 5 speed or auto. The Camaro version had a true dual-snorkel air cleaner that scooped in fresh air from behind the headlights.

Made one year only and they didn't sell too many because the 215 hp 305 TPI was the "hot" setup. A few might have escaped into 1986. The '86 305 TPI motor was relisted as 190 horses. HTH

Acttually made from 82-85 in F-bodies, Good running 305 due to 9.5:1 compression vs. 8.6:1 in the other carb engines.

IROC + 1985 = LG4, L69, LB9:cool:

F-bodies got the L69 for 2 years only (84-85). 1982 and '83 had the "cease-fire" injection. The MCSS premiered the L69 in '83.
