What exactly is the difference between the even fire 3.8 and the odd fire 3.8? What year did the odd fire stop being produced? Is there anything that can be done to the odd fire to make it an even fire? Just curious:p

The big difference is the crankshaft and camshaft. All odd fires have the low intake port heads. The last year of the odd fire was 1978. Its not worth converting with billions of even fire motors in the bone yards.

Idea for a hybrid: I saw a 78 Skyhauk (looks like a chevy monza) on ebay with the 3.8. I assume it is the odd fire engine. It would be neet to convert such a car to a sfi Hotair car but use the stock long block for number's matching purposes. It could be made to look completely stock due to the ac and altinator being in the same location as on the sfi engine and if someone ran the #'s it would appear to have come with that engine. I'm sure many people could be made to believe that it was some super rare buick turbo car (non turbobuick.com crowd of course). ;)

If it was me I'd just hang the old steel valve covers on the hot air motor and leave it. If you need numbers matching than use a 79-80 Skyhawk and use the block from a 79-80 vintage carb turbo Regal. Its going to be hard to explain how the SFI made it onto an analog era car. You'd have to look under the hood of a late 70's Cadillac to see what Bendex analog FI looks like to see what I mean. Thats a lot of effort to fool the dumasses of this world.
