Just wondering for those of you who have brought your stock (or mostly stock) TR's to a dyno what kind of numbers you cranked out? Factory was 235 on the hp i think but thats a lot lower isnt it? What about factory torque? Wondering mostly on 86 87 but would like to see the differences from the hot airs also. Thanks guys!

I,m pretty sure the 86 turbo regal was rated at 235 hp and the 87 turbo regal was rated at 245 factory HP ratings. I believe the factory rating for torque was 355 ft. lbs. at 2000 rpm's.

Hot air cars were rated at 200 hp/300 tq
Intercooled cars were 235 hp ('86), 245 hp ('87) and 355 tq.

Except on the GNX which was rated at 276 hp/360 tq.

But I'm pretty sure these numbers were very under rated.

I too would like to see some "dead on" dyno numbers on a stock unmodified GN.

what was changed between 86 and 87 to account for the power increase? that can't all be from the ecm, can it?
or was it just Buick being more honest since it was the end of the line for the g body and they didn't really care if they started to step on the toes of the Vette engineers.
after owning my 84, i believe that the hot airs actually made about what the intercooled cars are rated at, the intercooled cars about what the GNX was rated at, and the GNX was way up off the chart somewhere- which is amazing considering how little was actually done to them at ASC.
i think i just read in the GNX section that all of their cars were run on a chassis dyno by ASC before delivery and were putting out mid 300's AT THE WHEELS in stock form- which is a bit more than the 276 flywheel hp rating.

I remember a magazine doing a piece on an intercooled TR and it started with a dyno rating of 200 HP at the wheels and with some bolt ons, it ended up with 300 at the wheels.
Anyone remember that article? maybe a Carcraft, or a Turbo & HightTech? probably mid to late 90's

My stock 86' put out 246 hp at the rear wheels. That was using the stock BBKJ recall 87' chip.

Surely somebody has a dyno sheet from a stock car!?

GRUMPY get in here:biggrin:

Wow 246rwhp stock! Do u have the sheet thats a horsepower over the factory 87 at the crank.

Pretty good

Wow 246 to the tires is pretty good.. So i would guess that the 87 may be slightly more in the 250s or so.. Anyone else have a sheet or anything that would be cool. Thanks

Based on the magazine tests they did back in 85-87 the cars were making 270-290hp at the flywheel. Probably less with today $hitty fuel.

take note of the RPM's they choose to use for the rating - they could have accurately said something like only 100 HP......@ 1,075 RPM's. I also think the opposite is at work for the 6 HP rating on my shop Vac motor; it is soft ball sized 110vac but spins super fast, where the 220vac triple phase 35 lbs motor on a band saw is only 0.75 HP

Not a GN - but the bastard stepchild. Same engine - minus the heads w/ 2.5 more #'s of factory boost and the fancy intercooler.

Letter written to a TTA owner re: specs - 280 rwhp / 380 rwtq

Engine dyno sheet done in 89 - showing one engine putting out 345 hp - flywheel.
