I'm getting ready to replace the rope rear main seal.I picked up a FEL-PRO rear main seal #BS 40613. FEL-PRO is calling the seal "rubber seal" not neoprene. Is this FEL-PRO seal the the best replacement seal?

Thanks in advance. I would not be happy if i used the wrong seal.

Yes, I believe that is the correct one. The other choice is rope and you can 't confuse those. One suggestion, clean , clean , clean, get all the oil off or it will leak.

It's a good seal

I replaced my seal with the Fel Pro you are useing aand have had np leaks whatsoever. Contrary to a lot of posts on this board I replaced the side seals with the "nail" and rubber seals provided in the set, coated with liberal amounts of anerobic RTV sealant. Be sure to "clock" the new seal at about the 11:00 and 5:00 position in relation to the main cap surface.

Thanks lugnut28 and Woody i'll follow your advise.

Did you guy's have to move the engine? I'm planning on just wrestling with the oil pan.

If you mean unbolt the motor mount bolts and jackthe motor up, no, I didn't have to. You will most likely have to turn the crankshaft to get the oil pan out. Check the post http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=96196. I use the nails/ Pins.
The machinist who did my motor work explained that he see's a lot of RTV strings in the engines he hot tanks. You know if a little if good, half a tube should make it fly. HA HA.He suggests using it sparingly so you dont have all those strings that squish out floating around your oiling system. He got me to use permatex liquid high tack in the bottle instead of RTV, brush it on where you want it and what does squish out stays where it is.
