So Red's what is your secret? :) Didn't you have the 204/214 and ported heads when you ran that?

Thanks for all the replys. It has helped me a lot.

I think I will go with ported heads eventually. Probably just clean up the bowls as disscussed. I will probably buy a set of used heads and work from there.
I drive my car at least 100 miles a week, so I need something consistant. I realize that I can go pretty quick other ways like high boost/ race gas, or high boost/alky/93. Plainly put, I am not running Alky on my car! :) And I am not driving around everywhere with C16 in the tank and a race chip.
Like RED said, I like the idea of running 12.0 with low boost and 93 octane. Not saying that everyone will run those #'s, but I'm going to sure as hell try. :D
Like HR said, lower cylinder pressure, less backpressure, turbo doesnt work as hard, less heat, less chance of detonation.

So, TE-44 (or 49) + 50's+ ported heads= :D :D

OK, I see! Exactly like my friend Kenny in that other thread, Frankg going 11.88 on pump gas and me going 11.52 on pump gas. We all (except Kenny) had heads and cam but Kenny just heads. It works!

I keep forgeting, people want to RACE in street trim? Wake me up when you finish! I'll part with the 40$ for race fuel, and throw the race chip in at the TRACK for 1/2 to 3/4 of a SECOND! Is the car not fast enough on the street? I (or anyone I've given a ride) don't need or want to go any faster on the street. Myself, I could care less what it runs in street mode. I'm sorry, I just have a hard time putting street & race in the same sentance. Good luck with the 12 oh's on pump gas, it's possible (won't be easy without the cam, heads) but you can do it! Rock on STREET RACER! :D You have to admit 11.30 sounds better than 12.00, right? What's next, towing campers down the track? No wait I got one, a speed bump at the 660', racing on three wheels? How bout-- SHUT UP GUSS!!!!:D

7 years ago I had to rebuild my motor. Since then I've racked up 20K miles, alot of these were a ¼ mine at a time. ;) While it was open I went with porting of the heads, port matching the intake, a 206/206 and even with at the time a stock turbo and stock injectors, the car came alive. I quickly realized I didn't have enough fuel. It pulled way harder in the midrange! I kept the stock turbo and stepped up to red stripes with a Lubrant 93 & 110 chips and pulled of an 11.90 best with ET drags. Yes that was with a stock turbo at 24 psi. :D It is a benefit to port the heads, but there is more than one way to accomplish your goals. Whether you take the high road or the low road, you get to the same place with carfully thought out mods. That motor finally gave up, and a new girdled and billet main with forged pistons is being dropped in. Also an ATR billet roller, but I'm still staying with iron heads. I love popping the hood and it looks like a stocker.

Russ what sounds good to me is saying the time the car runs as it sits outside in the parking lot waiting to be warmed up to run the bosses Vette. :)

Just a different way of looking at things. I like to run one level of tuning. Makes the testing easier everyday on the way to and from work. :)

If all you want is "a time" get the race chip and good gas.

I want the real time, just like the big block guys. ;)

Russ, you do make good points, but they can mix together if needed. (the whole race gas idea). Whats wrong with running 12.0's on the street with 93, then swapping in race gas and a race chip when you go to the strip and run those 11.xx's? :D

I never thought of it that way though, I do want to race in street trim. 12.0 will be my street trim, if I can obtain my goals. I don't bracket race, or plan on it, I would just like to have fun on Test n Tune nights taking blasts down the track.

I would like the minimize all the variables possible as far as tuning. ie: running alky, race gas/chip vs. pump gas/chip.

I'm glad you guys are good sports! I didn't mean to get pissy (though sometimes we all do) There is a good thing about running it the way it is on the street, you don't have to do WFO blasts on town roads to tune! (damn that ATR single exhast):D

MY experience with ported heads

Ported heads,44 turbo,206/206 roller cam, stock tranny, stock intercooler,15# boost, 93 lubrant chip, 3in singleshot and I went 111mph in the 1/4. I deffinatley give alot of credit to the heads and cam!! Alky on the way!
