To unstand some history, check my other post. I'm starting this thread specifically on the O/H of the BRF I just pulled from my Z28 to put in my stock 87 GN.

First of all, I wasn't planning a full rebuild since it was running ok, but wanted to make sure it had the nessisary hard parts (pump ring kit, stator, sun shell, l/r bearing) and check endplay. I decided it wouldn't hurt to put the B/W clutches from a previous rebuild kit seeing as I won't really need them for the other tranny. (I posted some pressure readings in another thread)

Shift kit: I previously put a new style transgo repro kit (full race) in it, I was planning on leaving that. Is there anything I should revert or change from that kit?

Valvebody/Gov: BR3 valvebody, governor is definately a GN type. Is it correct to have no spring on the heavyweight side?

Pump: body is 690, stator splines are shot, can't tell if the rings are hardened but I'll change them anyway. I will drill the drain back holes. Should(Can) I put a 10-vane kit in it? Or is that best left upto you guys with the milling machines. :)

Checked the input shaft endplay and it was .035-.037", and the fwd clutch shaft end play was .048". The sunshell doesn't looked hardened. So I'll put in one to be safe. I am down to the L/R clutch so far...

Parts

Seeing as I am going to go with a new, better full rebuild kit for the other tranny, I thought I'd go head and use the o/h kit I have on this one. It has the B/W clutches, no band though. It's a natpro, the o/h packet inside it is transtec K45900R. The sealing ring bag in that has 3321 on it.

Is this going to have all the right seals and gaskets that I need to use, such as the teflon rings? Or should I get a set?

I was planning on trying to order what parts I could from PTS, probably seturbo since I'm in Ga and shipping will be one day.
Do you guys sell the hardened sun shell, don't see it on your site. I know you have the pump ring kit.

What about a bearing or washer kit? I noticed Chris has those on his site, but didn't see any on PTS.

I can get some from CK if nessisary, but being I only have this week to build it, I need parts fast, and seturbo is just over 200miles.

Chris, I'm sure I'll be getting parts from you eventually with all the work I'm going to be doing. Does your bearing kit include the L/R roller bearing?

Sun Shell

Taking another look at the sun gear shell, the one in it may be hardened. There is a noticable change from light to a darker color about 1/8" back from the front and the bottom of the inside is blackish in color. I tried scratching the outside of the shell and couln't really put a scratch that I could tell on it. There is no side to side play, so the splines are good. Should I keep it or play it safe?

Also, does the L/R housing require machining to accept the roller bearing?? This one has the copper bushing behind the shell, not plastic, but I would still rather use the roller bearing if I don't have to send it off to be machined.

L/R

Well, upon close inspection, the L/R clutch housing splines are worn badly on one side, looks like someone took a grinder to them almost, just the first part of the splines and only in one spot, but beveled pretty bad. Would it be best and not to expensive to just replace the housing, maybe with one already machined for roller bearing if that's required??

I got about .019" play on the rear planetary pinons, one was a bit tighter at .014", by the ATSG that's stil within specs. Race looks good.

Sunshell: I was able to scratch it with a file, but only with a file.

Front planetary: .018-.020"

we have what you need and can 2 day it for the weekend if you are in a hurry.check your mail.

L/R Center Support

Thanks chris...

I feel pretty stupid now after looking back at the PTS L/R Center Support, I was thinking it was just a bearing, but now see that's the whole center support (clutch housing?) I assume pre-machined for the bearing...
