My computer got fried at work after the hurricane, and I can't reboot. recovery disk doesn't work, safemode doesn't work- can't get beyond dos. It keeps stalling on recovery saying the VFATS device isn't working. I've been working on this for hours, any ideas?

TIA

What operating system? Probably need to blow it away with fdisk, format it, and reinstall fresh.

hard to tell w/o testing everything but,
kinda sounds like you fried something, leaning toward the idea its your mobo.
it could be a couple of things though

Yeah, I kinda misread that, forgive me I had a bit of surgery this morning and on some pain meds:D Board may be gone. Pull all cards but video out and try it.

Its windows 95
Its my work computer, so I'll try again monday. I really don't want to lose all my files though.

Got another Hard Drive?

Do you have another hard drive you can stick in the computer? Another question is do feel comfortable enough working on it? Because I can give you a hard drive with the Windows 95 installion files and instructions on how to get the computer up (if the Motherboard isn't fried) with the hard drive i send you (free...don't worry i got more computer crap lying around then I know what to do with) so that if your files are still there the will be accessable as the second/slave hard drive...Let me know

I do this stuff everyday for a school system. It keeps the GN running :D
