In removing the factory located intercooler one of the braces uses one of the front cover bolts . It was replaced with an aftermarket bolt that is to long after removing the brace.

Anyone have one laying around for the 231 V6 ?

It is the long bolt on the right of the water pump.

Let me look tomorrow I might have one

Are you saying you need a bolt that holds the front cover to the block? That is a pretty common size available at most hardware stores in any length needed. Of course I can't remember the size off hand

The only intercooler bolts on a front cover are at the very bottom and they use those goofy threaded studs....

Which specific bolt at the water pump are you looking for? I've got an entire SS bolt kit but that's probably overkill if you only want a plain bolt that will work.

Was looking for a factory bolt for now to replace the aftermarket one in there now.

If have to build a new engine, I will replace the cover with a TA part and use a stainless set.

For now, I am looking for a water leak.

A simple fix is to use a short piece of 5/16" coarse threaded rod and 2 nuts for this application to seal the timing cover and retain the IC bracket.

He said it was up by the water pump but never said which specific bolt it was. Odds are it's available at a hardware store but damn near every bolt on a timing cover is a different length and/or size.

It looks to be 5/16" thread.

I will pull it back out and measure it to get the length. If nothing else, I will turn out a spacer on the lathe.

He needs one of the 4” bolts that go through the water jacket. I had a intercooler with a brace like that. Let me check my bolt stash I should have one.

If it's the thicker of the two sizes it is 5/16-18. Except for that oddball studded bolt that doesn't do anything, that one is metric.

That sounds like one of the three long bolts. And at that link, it's the correct dimension to work without the bracket.

Could someone post a picture of what this specialty bolt looks like?
I've got a big bucket of OEM GN nuts N bolts that I can look thru, just need some help describing or picture of what I'm looking for.

I am pretty sure I may have one

I was thinking that if I remove the intercooler bracket that the bolt would be to long and I can tell it is not a GM bolt as it looks aftermarket.
