I've had my V-2 installed for awhile, spal fan's and 4 core radiator.

My car has been sitting in the shop for awhile as well. Now I'm ready to go for a ride and noticed that when I redid the front end I did not replace the...I'm not sure what the proper names for these items are, but the fiberboard material panels that direct air to the radiator at the sides and bottom.

My question is with the FM are they still necessary on a car that see's mainly street use and what if any alterations are required to them to make them work?
When I removed them I had intensions of replacing them, however the FM seems pretty close like they may be uncalled for?

I did look at the set up ATR offers but from what I can see it requires alteration to be used with a FM. Is anyone using one of these with a FM set up? I may be better off just using the parts from the car as a baseline pattern and make my own if necessary.

TIA

I use them on my car. I cut two round holes for the pipes to go through. That is to force air through the radiator, instead of hitting the radiator or FM and then being forced down under the car.

Mike-
I have the same setup as you, but my Jack Cotton FM covers the entire radiator support. The air baffles are absolutely necessary and what i did was to wrap the baffles around the intercooler pipes and tie wrap them and generally close off the bottom and sides as much as possible. I also got some water pipe foam insulation tubes and stuffed them between the radiator sides and the radiator support to redirect more air through the radiator. In the summer (90+ temps) with the air on, motor stays around 185-195 on the street. Good luck

Thanks for the information......

Looks like it's time to do some fab work. I never did like that darn felt paper crap anyway...

I live in TX and I don't use them.My car never gets past 190*.And tht was in summer heat.I do plan on doing some kind of deflector though.ATR has a sheet metal kit for that.

Even with my side "thingy's" installed I still had over heating problems. But then I used a piece of sheetmetal to "eclose" the bottom area (from bumper to rad. support) and the problems went away. WAY cheaper then ATR ad pretty easy to make. Now I actually have to turn off my fans to get the car up to temp. (and this is in Hawaii).
