My 86 GN has Reds XP fuel pump, and home made hot wire kit. Under light cruise or idle the car will die. Fuel pressure is 0. Engine will crank and all accessories will work. After sitting 5-10 minutes it will start up and run normal. This has happened 3 times in the last 100 miles. When I turn the key I dont here the pump run for 2 seconds like it should. When the car is running I get 14.7 Volts at the pump. Any ideas?

that would be my guess. how old is the pump? how many times have you run the car really low on fuel?

Fuel pump is 7 years old- only about 3000 miles. next time this happens I'll have the volt meter ready to check voltage at the pump

Power supply or ground.

Since its a homemade kit, varify if the other fuel pump relay on the pass fender is working correctly.

The small black wire near the alternator is commonly used as the trigger wire for the aftermarket relay, sometimes that connector gets worn out.

You need to see if its a heating up issue as Chuck suggested, if and when it stops you should varify if your getting voltage to the second relay, but also check the ground where you have it at.

The fuel pump circuit is fairly simple, i did have a car give me fits because of the factory relay not coming on.
