Somewhere on the internet, I've seen a step-by-step with photos showing you how to take apart the sending unit and using Scotch-brite to clean the corrosion which fixes it. I can't seem to find it right now.

not shootin any messangers but was just suprised. as i was just lookin at one the other day. you couldnt cram 250 dollars worth of gold in that little space lol. I hope mine's still workin lol.

I've got NOS hanger/sending units if anyone is still looking. We all know they're discontinued, so don't expect it to be cheap (like an "disco" TR parts is!). Mine will be around what the dealer's list price was when they still had the hangers available. Email me directly if anyone is interested.

i have an original one out of the tank of a running car complete no upgrades or modifications let me know if interested as its about to go onto ebay.

JC Whitney sending unit

Dan and others,

I'm sorry to hear that the JC Whitney unit did not work for you. The unit I bought off the JC Whitney web site was:

Adjustable Fuel Level Float, for General Motors Vehicles, 0-90 ohm resistance, PN: ZX132950R Each $17.99.

I removed the white plastic rehostat from it and put it on my hanger after drilling out the rivets that held on the original bad one, then formed the new float arm to fit. The rehostat had the exact same mounting hole locations so I was able to easily adapt it onto my hanger.

As I remember, the new unit was packed in a white box and it was made in the US. Maybe they found a cheaper supplier and thats why it does not fit.

The rehostat has a metal cover, you could probably bend back the 3 tabs to get it off and clean up the windings and the wiper contact point and then verify that you get 0 - 90 ohms across it as you lift & lower the float arm. I hope that works for you.

Here's that article from another board member: Blank

The 86/87 sending units do come apart differently than the instructions I wrote for the 84/85's. One good thing is they all work the same with the 0-90ohm signal. If it's broke now the worst you could do is fix it. Get an ohm meter and perform the tests as instructed on the site using the appropriate wire colors and see where your problem lies. If you have any questions or are unsure what the meter readings indicate don't hesitate to pm me.

Use this link instead it shows the wire colors for the different years
