Can someone follow this link and tell me what the yellow connector is on top of the gas tank ? I have my tank lowered (not all the way out just dropped a little) and can see the connector. (3rd and 4th picture)

How to install an intank fuel pump. - TurboBuicks.com

The pump shuts down sporadicly, incidentally the fuel gauge also stopped working about the same time the pump problem started.

When the pump shuts off, if i slightly pull on the wires to that connector the pump kicks on ?

Is that a connector or some sort of weather cover ?

I have looked everywhere to try to find one but cant seem to find anybody that has one.

You can find hot wire kits all day long to plug into the factory wiring, but if the factory wiring is bad what do you do ?

Thanks again for any help or advice.

Steve

You may...

just have a bad ground, the grd is located in the trunk. Along the left rear. It is separate from the connector and screwed to a bracket that is welded to the trunk floor, just in front of the left rear tail light. I believe that plastic piece is an isolater for the wires. I will try and look it up for you.

Thanks for the help. If I have time this weekend i am going to run a new seperate wire from the tank ground to that grounding point in the trunk
to completley remove that from the picture.
Actually I hope you are right since that would be an easy fix versus dropping the entire tank and removing the pump and that yellow connector (if that is what it is)
Without dropping the entire tank i cant really tell what the heck it is.
Once again thanks for the reply

The yellow "plug" is not actually a plug but a fitting for the wiring to go thru the sending unit to protect the wires. Try to isolate the short or open by moving the wires or wiggling them a small length at a time. As posted before, check your ground inside the trunk behind the driver's tail light. Another possible location of a short or open is the 3 pin plug going to tank behind the rear bumper. Unplug , clean and plug back up.
