Watching some of the auction I was shocked to hear that some of GM's cars will be sold with a scrap/salvage/reconstructed title to eliminate any liability to them. They said they had to do this due to some of the modifications and special builds not being under warranty. I know in some states it is hard to register a vehicle with a salvage or reconstructed title. One would think they would sell their cars on the CO (Certificate of origin) seeing that the car has never been titled and the bidder would technically be the first owner!
 
It just seems like their giving away a lot of history

In some states, it might not even be possible to license some of those, so you are basically buying a museum piece you can look at, which great if you have a museum, but not great if you are going to BJ to buy something to drive and enjoy.

The active handing ZR1 was cool and probably cost GM $10 million to build, but even if you could drive it, where do you take it where the active handling breaks? Mr. Goodwrench would tell you to GTFOOH!
 
Odd. I thought they said it was sold for $15k when it aired. Maybe it was a different WE4, though.

There's an * next to the $16.5k that states "price includes a 10% buyers premium" whatever that means. So $15k plus 10% turns into $16.5k. That extra 10% they add on after you bid must feel nice.
 
The 1990 Corvette ZR-1 (1 of 1) sold for 137K, the announcer said it was powered by a LT5 ????

And a 1997 Monte Carlo (similar to the 2000 & up production body style) Dale Earnhardt edition with his sig sold for 135K and to the same guy that bought the Vette.
The engine I think was a 3.8 but the top of the motor was something that I have never seen on a 3.8? They said the car was street legal, it did have yellow letter'd Goodyear eagle tires.

I thought the best value and one of the best performance Corvette's was the 1 of 1, ZR2 of 1989. A 454 in a C4 that had run low 11's back in 89 from the factory for only 71.5K with the 10% buyers added!

well it use to be 8% for BOTH the Seller AND the BUYER =...lemme take off my shoe..ummm 16% to BJ:eek: and thats not counting the registration "fee's" .. So I wonder if BJ went to 10%/10% :confused:

An lt5 is the original zr-1 powerplant 4 over head cams. The monte was a custom 1 of 1 wide body it also had billet fuel rails adj fpr and sheet metal intake.
 
At the 1997 Sema show, GM had a V-8 Rwd monte that they built. It was either LT4 or LS1 powered. I didn't get a good look at the car at BJ because I had to take the dog out, but I wonder if this was it.

When it showed a shot of the engine bay you could see the coil pack upon the LH hand side so it had to be FWD.
 
10% is relatively cheap for an auction allowing credit cards, if they do so there I dunno.

Most antique auctions especially high end ones are even higher around 15%.

Some are 12-13% allowing discounts for cash and approved checks.

That's how the aucion house makes money buyers premiums. ;)

Fees to the seller are always there too, usually a sliding scale on price sold of goods.

Kinda rare to find 0% buyers fees auctions but some clubs have them for collectibles.

I thought the same thing. I would like to have that car. I also thought the impala SS six speed was a great buy for around 20k.
