I think the point is if the show is set in the 70's era it ain't a GN.

That is taking for granted that the show is historically accurate.

It comes on daily now in the afternoon on cable, tvland or something like that...

Well, I think he is supposed to be 14 years old and in high school in this episode, not sure.

Anyway, the show is not supposed to be historically accurate. Lots of artistic license...

In the the scene the GN is in, he talks about how someone offered to sell him a brand new car for only $300...

it's not a kid's show. it's a semi autobiographical account of Chris Rock's childhood. i think it was on Fox when it originally aired, but got canceled after only a season or two. i believe that it's on TVLand now, which is an offshoot of Nickelodeon where adults can watch the crappy shows that they thought were awesome when they were kids.
i can't really comment on how good or historically accurate the show is, since i've only seen about 15 minutes of the show, and that was spread over however many episodes i happened to flip past when looking for something else.
i guess it could be close to historically accurate if it was a brand new 84 GN, since that would be right about when he was in his early teens.

ok.. makes sense now.. the date at the very beginning is 1987.

I think there is one in another episode of that show too. I seem to remember seeing another sceen where his dad was standing next to one.
