Looking to get my son (8 year old) one for Christmas. Seems like these things evolved with the the rest of the world. The ones I'm looking at are 90cc, disc brakes, electric start, ect.

My question is: Is anyone else looking at one for their kids? If so what kind/brand? Any suggestions? I'm seeing these things range from $700 to $1300. Thanks for any info!

Get him a shifter cart and get him into racing;) , Sorry just trying to live a dream through your son:frown: Oh wait I have a nephew:biggrin: I would go on craigslit and see what they have to offer. You dont want to spend too much money and find out he doesnt like it, but who wouldnt like a go-cart? I would find something with a 5 hp honda. good luck your kid should be happy

That was a awesome video, i saw it in the past and had no idea he was going that fast

can't find it but on streetfire. net guy's got a hyabusa powered cart that is wicked fast like the one from the first vid

How about a good ole leg powered bike? Dont get him started down the dark path like you.....:D

Beauty is...

only skin deep!

From personal observation...
My bud has a small engine shop. He made the mistake of agreeing to "warranty" the JUNK that Lowes, HD, and others sold.
They were the CHEAPO [look alike], carts, 4 wheelers, dirt bikes.
He found:
1. MTBF is clocked in hours.. if you get 24 hrs B4 something breaks, U R very lucky!
2. Parts??? FORGET IT! Some sat in his shop for 6 months, and were still there til he told the owners to come get them.
Parts turned out to be scavenged parts off of other products that had been returned to the seller/importer.
3. More likely than not, the parts didn't fit... Changes were made so often, that many products were a "one of"...
4. Engine MTBF was about 4-24 hrs...
He finally called all the owners and told them they had 10 days to come get thier junk, or it was going to the scrap yard.
Don't be fooled w/ the engine design.. MOST are knokoffs of real engines, such as Honda, B/S, etc....
Bottom line: Go to a cart shop, and get 1. At least you have someone to return to, if/when it needs repairs...

Good advice Chuck. Only problem is there is no "kart store" that I'm aware of. I agree, Buy quality and it only hurts once.

My grandfather bought an old piece of crap go cart for next to nothing when I was about 8 years old. He bought a new Briggs 5hp motor and slapped it on there. I beat the crap out of that cart for years and loved it. I don't know what I would have done with anything faster. Probably cost him $50-100 for the roller. I don't know what briggs motors were going for 30 years ago.
