I didn't even see your sig before, sorry. 11.70-11.9x is my new guess. Also put a "nc" on the car to shut off the clock, so when you go to street car chaos no one will know what you run.

:( :( :( :( :(

ok i had a rough night...first of all test and tune was from 5-10 pm and i didn't even get there until 8...then i was waiting to get tech-ed in and i had to wait half an hour for that...by the time i was all tech-ed and stuff it was 8:45...well then i proceeded to switch my car over to race mode...that took about half an hour...by the time i got to the staging lanes it was 9:30!!!

ok run 1...i noticed i only had about 9-10 psi in my slicks but didn't bring the air machine with me...i set the boost to 25 lbs exactly...

burnout was good...i stage and then start brake boosting...only goes up to 5 lbs!? wtf is up with that...i had the pedal floored and it could only build 5 lbs...so i launched with that and then the car got really squirrly because of the low pressure in the slicks...i felt the car drifting side to side the entire run...oh yeah i forget to lock the TCC during my first run and ended up running 12.5 @ 110 mph...oooooook

so i hurry up and go for one more run because they were closing the lanes...stage again and same thing...only could build 5 lbs of boost...launched next to a low 10 second wheels up mustang...this time i lock the TCC at around 85 mph (didn't even feel anything?) and ended up running AGAIN 12.5 @ 112 mph crossing the line in D at about 5000 rpms...

then the track closed...still had over a 1/4 tank of race fuel left to burn and i paid 20 bucks for 2 runs...wahoo what a night

one positive thing was i didn't see one light at all light up on my knock gauge all night...i recorded both runs on turbolink and i am gonna look at them tomorrow...

i also was running my new denso o2 sensor and it never threw a code...o2's are still healthy...

maybe next time...i swear to god it's alot harder to tune this combo than it was with my STOCK combo which i ran faster with!!!

my 60 fts btw were 1.977 on run 1 and 2.079 on run 2...reaction times of 1.5 and 1.9 seconds:D

Those crappy short times are part of your problem. Even with 5psi of boost, on a dead hook you should at least be running 1.8's. I cut 2 mid-1.7's and a 1.71 at E-town a few weeks ago starting at a 5psi launch, then working up to a 6-7psi launch.
Also, how was the air?
Sean.

i have a stock D5 rebuilt converter...also the air temp was 50 degrees

with the stock turbo i could build 10 lbs of boost at the line no problem...now i can only build 5??? doesn't make sense...

Man, with as high a post count as you have there is no excuse for you not to have that sucker in the mid 11's... I hang my head in shame.. lol...

Does the chip need reprogrammed for the new turbo? I can almost see that if you just floored the accelerator that the engine might load up. Did you try gradually building boost? With my stock turbo I have to very gradually build 5psi before I can floor it (no more than 1/4 throttle) otherwise if I floor it will never build more than 3 psi b/c it's loading the motor up. Once i get past 5psi then I can mash the trottle.

ks:cool:

A te44 needs a minimum of a 2800 stall converter to work properly. These cars are all about correct combination. To put the rest of the pieces together you need a better converter and if possible a better intercooler or at least a big neck added. I wonder what the pressure drop is with a 44 and a stock intercooler?? I know a guy from Flint who has a te44 on a motor that has never had the valve covers off and it runs 11.40 @119. Of course he's running a MaxE chip!;) JUst had to plug it! LOL

i posted a new thread in the tech area about tuning...i just looked at my t-link stats...

btw when i was staged...i kinda hit the gas pretty quick...but why would that cause a low boost build rather than gradually building it up? i went 1/2 throttle and then tried going more and it wouldn't go any higher than 5...and i thought the stock converter was well suited with a te-44??? guess not

My guess is that when you floor it the tps signal tells the computer to start adding more fuel to a certain degree and it is flooding the engine just enough that it can't make any power.. This can be all wrong but this is what I tell myself;)

The stock converter is fine with this turbo but it may take some good chip programming to get it to spool like it really can. MrURL can tune like no other and the spooling results he has gotten is pretty amazing.

a buddy of mine was dealing with the same problems as you-
TE44 and D5 convertor, he had eric marshall do some work with the computer chip and got it where it would spool up to 10-15psi for the launch- best times yet are 11.60 123 in a TTA

you probably should just get a 3000 orange crush convertor, or some other lockup convertor to help spool up-

ive ran a D5 and a te44 and it was always a hassle to get the boost up to 10-15 for that good launch... just buy a convertor for xmas and it should definitely help some this spring-

You're too rich. Thats why I didn't guess a faster time. You've done so much to the car its not going to be easy to tune. I did the same thing, running RA's chips, couldn't hardly run 12's. My car was too rich, and I had changed too many things at once. Between your 60' and tuning you have a lot left. Get used to going to the track.

What I found when swapping back and forth between turbos on my GN, the header to turbo flange was slightly different (it warped to my original stocker) and allowed the smallest gap that slowed spoolup.

Even after I spent considerable time filing the mate faces, I finally gave up and bought an ATR copper gasket.

You need to see 2300 RPM on the scan tool to spool a TA49/TE44. If you don't see at least 2300, I'd say you are too rich. If you see 2350+ and it still isn't spooling, look for a pre turbo exhaust leak.

kinda funny because i don't use gaskets on my stuff...header to turbo flange is metal to metal...also my new poston's header on the driver side has no gasket to the head...i have checked the passenger side header and there's no cracks...the crossover pipe connections look ok...i don't know i guess i will see if i can get some gaskets and try again...regardless of the stock converter i have, i should still be able to build more than 5 lbs of boost i would think...

another thing that is bothering me is that i am still getting HIGH blms at idle regardless if i put in the race chip or the extender chip...with the extender chip it's always around 140-145 and with the race chip, it was pegged at 150

car still smells really rich...so there's gotta be some kind of leak somewhere i just can't find it!!!

im running a te44 .80 a/r and around 5 psi is all that i can get unless i set there foreaver, stock d5 btw.

The .80 AR will hurt spool as opposed to a .63

Don have you tried taking fuel out with your Translator?

Dragging up an old post...
Did you find some problems since you raced?
I see you're showing an 11.5@118mph in your sig now.:eek:

I was wondering the same thing! Nice times!

I was wondering too. I have been following your exploits and have never seen you post that the car ran as fast as it did when it was stock.
