Does weather the surface being sanded or not make a difference? The spot I sanded on the quarter didnt run, and the large surface that I just cleaned off real good ran. It was just in that black coating that the replacement panels have.

I think the overall plan is to just wetsand the runs and respray and dont thin the paint as much. I am very poor on my gun control. I dont think Ive painted anything where it didnt have at least 1 run.

Speed up your gun movement while reducing the fluid control knob. Scuff that E-coat.

I do know that not sanding it will allow for poor prep and not a very good job. I'd bet that if you wet sand it and shoot it again it would look much better.

what kind of gun you sprayin with charlie? If you can try to find yourself a Nice Iwata. Remember STAY AWAY from the old school gravity guns because they spray alot of VOC's and they are illegal, FAT fine if you get caught with one. What kind of primer did you use too? They have a nice primer thats good agains rock chips and its a weld throught primer so you can still make your weld repairs and spray without doing damage.

IT IS which is why I dont like people talking like im an F-N idiot:mad: Our shop got fined 1500 because a student was using an older model gun spray gun. This state is full of treehuggers like you said and alot of the local shops HAVE to use waterbased paints and HVLP guns.

When I lived in Whidbey Island we sprayed with conventinal HP Siphon guns all the time? I dont remember any of us worrying about the EPA.

That was a few years ago... This is now. Autobody shops in the area are facing fines for using siphon guns around here. Like charlie said, this state is full of treehuggers.

So I took the cutlass out for a little, got a mile away from my house, went over a bridge and heard BOOM, and the front right corner of the car dropped. Turned out, the lower ball joint pulled out of the A arm. Towed the car home, and was going to go to NAPA to grab a ball joint. Jeep had a dead battery. Pull battery out of cutlass, try to jump the battery in the jeep, didnt want to. Swap batterys, start jeep. Go to napa, spend $40 on a ball joint. $100 later, its sitting on the street in front of my house, and nothing is done. Isnt that just great.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

i've an rather old Devblibiss(sp?) siphon spray gun that i scored new in box for $10 from an wholesaler auction place... need a new compressor as my old Campell Hausfeld (walmart special lol) crapped out and broke the gauge system...scrapped it for a few bucks lol. anyways! back to topic of paint....the stores here have either House of Kolor stuff, PPG, or similar....I used Nason Ful-cryl brand, an acrylic/polyurethane blend that has low VOC.....again, not just WA, but Oregon's also full of tree huggers....hell, i had to make sure nobody reported me painting in the garage to the epa. I'd like to be able to spray lacquer if needed...as thats what my DD has for a paintjob lol.

i say good luck getting lacquer the only stuff out there is that duplicolor junk.and it comes pre mixed so you only get half a qt of paint. nason is good stuff i think its from the same people that make dupont. if you dont want that spray gun i will take it (it doesnt hurt to ask.) btw hok (house of color) cost alot unless your doing a show car use the cheaper stuff out there.
