I have had a magellan for over two years. I use it every day with my job running service calls. I have never had a problem with it. I bought my wife a Tom Tom for Christmas this past year. If we both had to pick between the two...Magellan. Mt two year old Magellan has never been updated and has better maps than the new Tom Tom. We live on a street that changes names within a three house stretch. We are on the portion of the street that only two houses set on with the name of the street. They are our house and the neighbors. Its in the Magellan... Not the Tom Tom.. I know all of that can be updated, but I'm more for buying it and not having to fool with it. I also find the Magellan easier to navigate back and forth through the menus. My wife agrees and wishes I would have bought another Magellan.
Heres a pic of a nice picture of one of the features of the Magellan. This one on the way back from Salt Lake City Utah...I was on the plane and got my bag out of the overhead compartment to find the GPS was on...Heres what the screen read. MPH and Altitude!!!!!
My dad was with me so he held one side while I held the other taking the picture. Shortly after the altitude went blank but the MPH went up to 605. It was right on with what the captain said...
I paid 200.00 with extended 2 year warranty at Best Buy.

I just purchased a "GPS Navigation for Dummies" brand (not sure who really makes it)model FD-220 at CVS Pharmacy for $99 I told my Brother -in-law In Kansas & he thought I meant Walgreen's; but they also had them for $99 (same unit) it has a 3.5" screen which I thought would be small but it does fine.
no bells & whistles but only a hundred bux  . Come w/ car charger; USB charger & windshield mount (I guess they all do!?!)Sop far it works nice; although it is a kick to see the directions they give when you know the shortcuts.
I looked at Target & WalMart & it was comparable to the $140.00 range models
Best bang for the buck I have found!

Hey Frank, hope all is well. I finally broke down and bought one a couple of months ago. Did a bunch of research and ended up with a Garmin 255 from Best Buy for a little over 200. What I learned was that the Garmin had less returns with problems. They have been in business for a really long time.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=13431 for the wife. Best Buy had the 255 on sale for $200 even a few months ago. The voice turn by turn is tad bit irratating but you can turn it off.

This was my first experience with GPS and I have to say what the heck did I do with out one all of these years. What I like about this one is that it actually thinks. Many of times I deviated from the route it had picked. We punched in every place we went just to see where it would send us. And it actually memorized my route so the next time I pulled that destination from the file it sent me on the route "I" had picked the first time. And it has a bunch of neat to play with gadgits like trip planning and cost per mile/trip whatever.

Good thing I learned how to read a map in school or was it the Boy Scouts? I can see GPS is just another tool to turn society into Dribbling Idiots. I can only imagine the idiocy coming down the pike in a couple of years when these start becoming standard equipment in the cheapest of cars. If you thought it was funny that Miss Teen South Carolina didn't know her azz from a hole in the ground than the future is looking pretty dim for the rest of us. Just remember a piece of printed paper doesn't need batteries or electricty to run it.
