Grage floor choices

The previous owner put down an gray epoxy floor paint with black, white and blue flakes. Don't think he did a good job of prep work. It's starting to peal when I park my car on it an leave it for more than a day. I got my Ecklers catalog....noticed some plastic squares that cover your entire floor. Also seen some checker board tile flooring. Could anyone share there experience....pros and cons. Really don't want to strip the entire floor.

I think that is the one problem with painted floors ... tires parked on them for a while .. tiles should help that

The tiles are cool as seen in the Ecklers cat but very costly.
they have the display carpet #41716 but a remnate is cheaper

I think the reason for the epoxy failing is due to bad prep, coating is only as good as the substrate prepping. if done right it will hold

powerwash it clean and etch with muratic acid then reapply

in my sig you can see i have the VCT flooring,its a stick down vinyl tile,it has alot of maitenance,and you must use a stripper and buffer to make it nice,the tires turn the white ones yellow,its a pain...i saw some of the thick heavy duty ones that look like diamond plate,they may work better..

Thanks Tommy, Glad I got some feedback on those tile floors....never thought of that...........would be like the floors in my office which I have to strip and wax all the time.....sucks.

you can rent powerwasher at home depot, tell em you want at least 3500psi and strip away with either yellow nozzle or the oscilating one (may have to request it)

You mentioned that it was already peeling so you can safely assume that the whole finish has failed and it will strip off very quick once you put the 3500 psi of hell hammer to it.

let dry then etch, let dry then re apply 2 part epoxy be it waterborne or evil based product

Remember this...unless you go to the unilok type tiles that just sit on surface, you will need to strip floor anyway because if you put down any type of sticky tile...all they will do is stick to the paint that aint sticking to the concrete then your back to square one except you now will have a bunch of tiles to throw away.

Not to hijack...but how costly is the epoxy flooring? I've been wanting to do the shop for sometime, but scared of what it'll cost to do 3k sq ft.

Na you can get 2 part waterborne for cheap at pittsburg paint, messure floor, gallon says 400 sq ft but figure it at 300. prolly 150 bucks or less for whole thing DIY

just need to powerwash the hell outta floor and etch with muratic acid<---thats a must. mix part A with B and let it get hot then cut and roll with thick nap skin...The day before, prime skin with water real good, let dry then de-fir it by pulling roll of tape with one end of tape under foot and tape roll in hand and roll the skin up and down the tape thats resting on your leg that way it wont shed fir on your wet floor as you roll

Just seen your posting on amount of sq footage so ya figure 8 gallons which is just under 400 sq ft per gallon, i'll call my buddy who is a rep for pittsburg and see what prices he has in book to give a ballpark

Use care in choosing the tile product.. Some are asphaltic based, and WILL melt if hit w/ products such as brake/carb cleaner, gasolene, nitro, etc!!

Costco is having a sale. These are very similar to Racedeck... made by the same company. Limited colors, though.

u coat-it works great as long as you use the clear coat they sell. avg about a 1sqft

My cousin used the waterbased rustoleum from menards and with proper prep it has held up great. and it on the side of the garage that their minivan and taures is parked on. .

exactly...friggun flour, water and a binder as long as its PREPPED RIGHT! but their making that waterborne 2 part epox pretty cheap now and it holds and you can mask off areas of floor and make logos or a turbo6 or stripes or big smiley face.

when still wet toss out some of the fleck and if you want..walk ways near doors you can add shark grip.

I'd appreciate that man... This raw concrete is killing me everytime I look at all of the war scars from misc. projects
