I've been involved to some degree since the mid/late 50's. Gassers, modified roadsters, top fuel, Funny cars, modified production.
Was involved with all of them at some point in time.
I've seen the racing go from the street to class racing with the gassers, mod production, pro stock, jr fuel, to the top fuel nitro ban, the "blacky carbon" gas dragsters.
Lots of "evolution", and back sliding.
With the advent of the "electronic warfare" crap displacing real racing, I pretty much reverted to hot street cars, TnT, etc.
Nothing clears the grandstands quicker than the announcer's call for super gas, super comp to the lanes. TOTAL bullshit.
I've no interest in seeing a dragster leave the line, go into shut down, then take off again.
Last time to BG was in 2020. First was about 89-90, AIRC. Pits were full clear to the timing shack, there were no vendor spots left. The staging lanes were full. Lots of KILLER BBB'S making lots of noise, pulling obscene wheelies!
Fun times!
I won't be making the trip this yr as my g'son is graduating HS.
My collection of NHRA rule books pretty much tells the story of the changing times.
Back under my rock...
