Hardwire a Tablet or Phone to the internet?

Is it possible to connect a Tablet or a cell phone to an ethernet cable? I'm in Afghanistan and they took away our wireless for security reasons. The only internet is for an ethernet drop.

I'm here too!! Yes you can as long as it has a USB port. mini or micro USB is fine. So.... go to Tiger direct or new egg and order a USB to Ethernet adapter. For Mac I think you can get a Fire Wire to Ethernet adapter.

I have a usb adapter I purchased while back. Wanted to transfer files from a usb flash drive to the table. Did not recognize the stick. Would it recognize an ethernet connection?

Do a search in a forum for your tablet and ask a few questions for the drivers. You may have to root it. What kind of tablet is it?

The tablet is an HP touchpad with android on it. the phone is a Tmobile Galaxy S3 unlocked.

You will still have to root them to do this I think.

It looks like you may need to install special software, might not be as easy as it seemed at first.

Thank Lil6 and Red. Looks like the pieces fit but not to savy with android. Not a straight forward as a laptop. Think this idea may be out. They wont let us use any electronic devices at work anymore. Thanks for the advice.
