I"m thinking of doing this an trying to get say a 19x11 in the rear with somewhere around a 325-35-19////335-30-19 in the rear.. I know with a knotched rear usually B.S. is somewhere around 5 to 5 1/2 ".. Just like to know if anyone has seen this.. I know there are guys who have knotched the rearfor larger slicks like Louie Lopez an some just wondered if anyone has ever seen it done for larger perf. tires an wheels??? Thanks

I just finished a car for a guy, notching the frame(deeply!)and modifying the wheel tubs. This car also got a cage.the notch required substantial stiffening of the rear section of frame, using portions if the cage to tie everything together.Between the super deep notch, and the stock tub mods,(widened by about an inch)I measured a full 13"from the face of the newly modified frame to the inside of the untouched outer fender lip.A tire with a stiff side wall, with a section width of up to 12" should fit without rubbing,(depending on the suspension setup)Whack the outters a little, and a 13" wide(section) roller might even fit. This car is primarily a drag car and will use slicks. And since slicks tend to waller around in corners, you couldnt go quite as wide as a radial. These cars get real flimsy real quick if you get carried away woth the torch.

I'm in the process right now of notching the frame on my '87 Olds to fit an set of 17x11" rims with 315/35ZR17 tires.
I wanted to run a set of 335/35's but they don't have near the availablity that the 315's do and are more expensive.

From the measurements on my car, it looks like I have roughly 5.75" from the brake drum face to the stock frame and 5.5" from the brake drum face to the stock inner fender lip.

Notching the frame to the factory seam gives another inch of room and we can knock about 1" off the wheel lip also.
That would give me 13.25" of room. We would need to go a little deeper on the notch to get the room for tire clearance though.

We still have quite a bit of measuring to do though. But we did pull the body from the frame yesterday so it'll make everything pretty easy.
