ive been reading alot of posts discribing fitment/leaking problems with Postons hotair headers and crossover pipe setup. i have ATRs hotair downpipe and the quality is great. i know there headers are a bit more expensive (not sure how much though), but do you think it would be money well spent over the Postons? my main concern is i want to install the headers once and only once with no leaks

thanks for the input

I have the poston set-up. I only had leaks in my stock up-pipe, but that was becuase the pipe was cracked. I got the ATR pipe after a day of driving the car when I bought the car, and the atr pipe hooked up effortlessly, with no problems. I did, however, hear that a couple people in the past had probles like this. My answer: Jaysgn.com

He has a great up-pipe with a joint in the center, instead of that damn accordian junk we had. That pipe he sells has been on an 11 sec GN and I am thinking about sellin the ATR pipe on ebay for that pipe on JaysGN.com. Anyway, my 2 cents!

Good luck!

John

i also have the ATR uppipe. looks like a good peice, just like their downpipe

the concern i had was leaks at the header/crossover pipe joints. are you using the poston crossover as well? i was thinking maybe of going with a poston header/ATR crossover combo to eliminate leaks

I have an 85Gn and put on a set of Poston headers with a stock crossover pipe and uppipe. The setup works great with no leaks at all. My problem came when my original uppipe died and I bought a solid steel one from Poston. This solid uppipe did not fit at all with the Poston passenger side header and the turbo. This cost me alot of money and time because the turbo would not sit properly. Solution- Returned poston uppipe and bought two stock uppipes in A condition(1 spare) and all is well. The stock uppipe was designed correctly with a little flex.
I have heard of problems with the Poston crossover pipe leaks- Stay with stock-There is no performance increases by replacing the crossover-spend you money on a downpipe. Just my thoughts-Brad

Brad is right...Keep the stock crossover, and like I said, go with the Jaysgn piece for the up-pipe. It is flexible enough so that you will not leak at the flanges. As for the DP, what are you going to use? ATR? I have the Mease pipe, but never installed it....my car died....So that combo should be pretty good. If you get the ATR pipe, you should find a 2 1/2 inch dump somewhere for track use. My brother is going with this set-up:

POSTON headers, stock crossover, JaysGN up-pipe, ATR Down Pipe, flowmaster catback set-up (already installed in car) with dynomax mufflers, and a 2 and a half inch dump when inspection is over!

Good luck!

my sig lists all the parts i have that are currently being installed. everything is apart now... ive got the motor torn down to the rotating assembly. i figured now would be the best time to add headers since i hear theyre a huge improvement over the stock peices. i wanted to go with the Postons since theyre cheaper and ceramic coated to boot, but was considering ATR because ive heard a few horror stories about fitment problems with the Postons

TPVETTE- What kind of exhaust are you running? When I put on the Poston headers I also put on the Hooker Hi Flow exhaust from Poston and eliminated the CAT.The performance increase was so good that I have eliminated the cost of a TA33, fuel pressue reg., Turbolink, blah blah...... Just My Thoughts- MIne runs great and my wallet cannot afford the drag strip! Brad

i plan on running a 2.5" straightpipe right off the downpipe that will exit just before the passenger rear wheel. ive always heard that the best exhaust for a turbo car is no exhaust. furthermore, mufflers like hooker and flowmaster etc have internal baffles and such that restrict exhaust flow (especially on a turbo car). if i was going to put a muffler on the car (like for inspection reasons) i would go with a dynomax ultraflow cause they are basically a straight through design

the entire reason i bought one of these amazing cars is to go fast! the money i saved on NOT buying an intercooled car allowed me to purchase alot of goodies for this one... TA33 turbo, AFPR, injectors, headers, tires, etc. alot of my friends have LS1s, blown Mustangs, etc and i just wouldnt be able to keep up with them on the stock turbo. after the motor is back together, im sending my 2004R to Dynatech for a complete rebuild... then comes the suspention mods like lift bars, drag springs, slicks, etc. when im all said and done im looking for 11s with this car
