headgaskets which side is up

a buddy of mine thinks he put his headgaskets on backwards, which way is up

fire ring down or

graphite side down

Funny thing is people do it both ways It isn't going to matter but I put graphite up and connected fire ring down toward the block.

When i did mine i put the part number up. That's if you are using a stock 86-87 gasket.
