Headliner info

If any of you need to do a headliner for your GN or any other G body car it can be done pretty darn cheap by yourself.

I just did a practice run on my 89 S-10 & sons MC.
You can by the fabric at any good quality fabric store in your area.
The place near me carried the General motors colors. Also has the 1/8" foam on the back side.

For my truck it required less than 1 yard. 1 yard was $7-
Next you need 1 can of 3m or Permatex adhesive which depending where you buy it can be $5 to $12.

My cost was $20- total to do the truck. Make sure you take the Shell out of the car & clean it off well or you will get lumps & less sticking area. also let the glue setup for 5 mins. before applying material.

3 Yards will do a G-body. The material will stretch an extra 1 inch from 55" to 56" real easy. By some strong clips or close pins to hold it in place. (you will need maybe 30 clips)
My G body cost were for 3 cans of spray $15 And $21 for the material.
The AUTO UPHOLSTERY SHOP WANTED $150 if I brought the shell & $275 for the total job. This will help those on a budget.

Just did mine a few weeks ago using the same strategy. T-top, so less surface area. The actual gluing of the fabric onto the board was the easy part... getting the screw lined up in the hole for the coat hooks when reinstalling was the PITA...

fabric stores? would have never guessed that. May end up doing it on my beater, I hate the thing tapping me on the head.

hmm, my headliner is sagging now, but they wanted $150 to due a headliner? you should have called the cops, they were trying to rob you

JoAnn fabrics has the grey headliner that is almost a dead match. When I walked into the store,the clerk seen that I had a piece of the old headliner,and knew exactly what I wanted to do. My car has t-tops,I think I spent less than $20 on everything. I guess it helps that I have a cabinet shop with the clear contact cement. The entire job took a few beers,and about two hours

I got a two headliners to do, both of which are astro roof headliners, and the headliner board is broken. Any good ideas for putting the broken pieces back together? I was thining something as simple as duct tape??? not sure how it would hold up over the duration....

Yes HOT GLUE GUN & duct tape for good measure afterwards.
I had to redo a corner & it held perfecto

And.... for those of you in the South, Hancock Fabrics has grey GN headliner material that is pretty darn close.
