i am steve and brand new here. pardone my english as a french canadian i l try my best not to dishonor yourlanguage. wonder if you can help me with this. freshly rebuilt engine, was working last season but now can t get it to work correctly, runs but rough idle and black smoke hardly goes over 3 k rpm, no tr. codes, good plugs and wires. ive install a casper cam sensor and reruned instruction many times to make shure ok and install timing set according to stock specs, the cam is so about 30 psi gas pressure... what s next thanks

Hello Steve and welcome aboard. My first quess would be the MAF on it going out, maybe some more will chime in with me and 30psi at idle with the line off is to low ! I have mine set on about 38 with the line off. Take off the maf on your intake and check inside it, I have seen trash, bugs, etc get in there and make it go crazy !!!!!!! Good luck Daniel

thanks for answering, maf is clean but its a jobber, still waiting the oem one from red line perf. he told me it should have no effect at idle or bellow 12 psi mode, indicates 4 engine stoped arround 9 at 1k rpm and climbs when accelerating, anyway im breaking in, last season it worked fine with it. ive got a accel guage on the inlet of fuel rale, with hose blocked off near 35 it wants to stall ( at idle) and since i tried to ajust pressure it runs eaven rougher.ived blocked off the vaccum ports on top of throttle, same. manually activated egr, as major effect... waste gate is not plugged, rpm hardly climbs but when boost kicks in engine seem to go much better, dosen t bog it wants to go faster but i wont let it happen, got to find that problem...new knock and o2 oem sensor from g body parts. thanks for the help

No problem Steve, my maf went out on me one time, ran BAD, barely made it home and it was running so rich it was blowing out tons of black smoke. Also I had mine do the same thing one time to me and the screens had turned sideways in it. Pop your hose off and check that. Sounds crazy but it happens. Something else you can try it unplugging the maf all together, it will send it into limp mode. See if it makes it better or worse. Let me know but I am betting that MAF is your problem Daniel

thanks daniel

maf in good looking shape and plugged. cant get fuel pressure hire than 30 unplugged, wants to stall.( guage on inlet side) he what my otc 4000e monitor regieter s tps .46 rpm oscillate 1k to 1200, spark adv 38 to 40, 02 rich, 02 volt .53 to.63, lv8 43 to64, maf 8 to 11, mat 95f, cool temp 165f, diag. state 8 alcl, loop stat clos, integrator 121 to 128, iac 86 to 95, 02 cross count 4 to 40, blm 117 to 118, egr 0%, 20 psi oil, parked engine dosent rev nicely, bogs, feel like slightly backfiring and barely black smoke. at idle (165f) no black smoke just rough idle and sometimes stals. i previously tried another ign module (used) didnt do different eaven used maf, no change. changed plugs and wires, same. check around intake with brake cleaner for some succion ok. 13.6 volt.

maybe you have a bad/loose connection between the maf and throttle body. Also, those walbro fuel pumps have been known to crap out since your fuel pressure seems to be acting up.

Maybe your injectors and chip do not match. That will cuase problems. Since this is a new engine.

If the engine ran perfect and now it doesnt.. then its a bad MAF. The only way to test the MAF is on another Buick.

Fuel pressure being low is another problem, but understand the fuel pressure has to be set to match the chip inside the computer. So you need to say what chip your computer has and for what injectors.

With the key on and engine not running do you have a steady service engine soon light lit up?

one of my problems is that the tech i am dealing with is not very near and we both work 8 to 5 monday to friday, verry busy at work, can hardly miss... he told me eaven if theres no piping it should be able to idle and drive around nicely... last season he furnished me a modified new pump ( not sure of the brand)... 5/16 to 3/8 pipe... with the new wiring kit got 42 inj green stripes 93 oct 2800 stall, rgc plate, ported runners, 3"down pipe, precision 60 turbo. since he didn t receive my chip in time he lend me is from is trans am( same configuration ) the only difference is weight. all that ran well before i stoped it in fall .. as is. could the data and infos ive posted be good to try to diagnostic? thanks people much appreciated

yes it stays on, the only code that appears is 24 when i start the engine and i help it surving whit the gas pedal, cold the idle is verry rough. ( vss is logical i guess i confuse im )

Piping MUST BE connected from the turbo to the mass air with no leaks in it. It will not run at all if there is no pipe there. sounds like a masss air to me also.
Do you know for certain the cam sensor is installed correctly?

See, told you these guys were great fellows on here, everyone that I shot a PM to has came running to help. Thanks to all you guys !!!!!!!!! This site is the best on turbo buicks steve, just hang in there man and get a new maf to try on it. Gut feeling that is your problem, also while you are waiting try takeing it off and spraying it out with electronics cleaner spray [ not the canned air ] just make sure you get Electronics cleaner spray cleaner from the parts store. It could have trash on it inside and making it run just like you are saying. Mine did that also years ago and that cured it.

about the cam sensor, i followed instructions from casper and reviewed my work many times, as far as im concerned its dead on. i eaven retried the old one on to see, same results. with the data ived posted concerning spark advence and mass are they in a good range? mass also indicate 4 with engine stopped key on. is it possible that mass indicate good reading according to the condition of the other data an still could be deffective? i will recheck piping and clean mass tomorrow need some slep. oh and what about the fact that it kill s the engine when i bring the gas pressure over 30 psi ( hose blocked off )? weird no? thanks for your help!!!

Steve , maybe over the winter that fuel pressure guage is sticking? You may be putting more pressure to it than it is reading. Do you have a spare or a friend that has one you can borrow for a second to put on and check it. Yours may be reading 30 and your really at 50 !! Just a thought. I don't know why it would be reading 4 with the motor off either?????? Maybe someone else will help on that one but to me I would think it should be 0 . Just got up myself lol its 5 am here in Georgia usa. Got to go to work in a while. Good luck Daniel Ray
also the tps may be just a little high as mine is around 43-44 but that shouldn't be your problem at all

ya, as well as my maf the regu is ordered, the tech told me that the bosh adjustable is not verry good so i didnt hesitate, still waiting for it. guess i have to put some "pressure" lol to get these parts. thanks daniel. im from quebec canada
